The Lesser-Known Toku Discussion Thread

I really love Daimajin Kanon. Created by producer Shigenori Takatera (Car, Mega, Ginga, Kuuga, first half of Hibiki), and written by Shinji Ooishi (first half of Hibiki) and Naruhisa Arakawa (Kuuga, Aba, Deka, Gokai, Akiba). The story is amazing. It's like, the ultimate anti-depressant. The show is very well written and the characters are so lovable and really feel organic. The visuals and overall concept is pretty neat and beautiful looking as well. :)

I also like Changerion. The show is like a collection of Toshiki Inoue goodness back when he was still good! It's a really weird show, but it is so well executed! :anime:

Oh yes, I always loved that show! :anime: I guess I think of it as more of a J-drama with a toku bent, but yes, it definitely counts

I was going by 'Toku' as special effects. I don't disagree on J-drama, but I guess I just considered it toku enough.

Fantasy Leader, speaking of Kanon, do you know where I could get it? I tried Nihon, but there aren't enough seeders to move the torrent along very well, last I checked. It's definitely something I have interest in.

Ahh, this reminds me of an old thread I made...

That thread is a worthy project, Yellow. It's a lot easier to find clips or information about a show if you actually have a name to go with it.

"Iron King" was awesome, though I really did not like Gentaro in the first storyline. He was just too much of a macho jerk. What kept me loving that saga, however, was Goro. Making the comic relief the hero was a fantastic idea. Gentaro became so much better afterwards, combining the manliness of the first story and yet more of a heroic edge beyond punching women and horses. I would recommend it to any lover of classic scifi.
"Red Baron" is honestly my favorite mech show, whether anime or live action. It's just so, so much fun. You literally cannot enjoy it enough. Just as well, it pulled a Darth Vader before Vader did. Classic, classic show.
"Aizenborg" is a show to watch, if not just for the mesh between anime and live action. The fight sequences are awesome.
Yeah, Gentaro could be a bit of a jerk. I remember watching it and being like "OHMYGERD" when he smacked the hell out of that first woman. And he did it like it wasn't anything. And Goro laughed about it! Anyway, I love Iron King and I am so glad that it got a good release here in the U.S.

I have Super Robot Red Baron but I haven't watched it yet. I have the crappy Mill Creek re-release and when they compressed the episodes onto fewer discs it screwed up the timing. By the end of each episode, the subs are off by more than three or four seconds, which is very distracting to say the least. I really need to find the original BCI release but it's hard to come by now.

If you don't care to use DDLs, I saw Daimajin Kanon at KRDL.

I'll also go ahead and throw this out here...I love Kankyou Choujin Ecogainder. Yes, it has virtually no action. Yes, it is for kids - little, little kids. But I love it for what it is. It has the most rocking OP of any series ever. Also, I find it admirable for its message of environmentalism, and the simple environmentally friendly lessons presented throughout the course of each episode. Aside from the content, I think Ecogainder has an excellent suit design. The bad guys...not so much.

Oh, and Sayaka Akimoto is very easy on the eyes. :anime:

Was Ecogainder a full series, or was it only a short one (like, 12 or something)? I mean to watch that one if it's a shorter series, ever since I saw it on Gao Soul Forever's site.

It's only 14 episodes, and each episode is only about ten or eleven minutes. It had a second season I believe, but it hasn't been subbed and I'm not sure where you can get it. Then there was another series released called Ecogainder 0X but all I have been able to find for it is the OP.

Ecogainder 0X

I don't understand your reaction pic. Is it because you think what I said was in someway condoning hitting women or something? I was just indicating that I was shocked when I saw it and the secondary character's reaction to it.

I got my Kanon eps off of Over-Time.
