Didn't we have a thread for this movie already like months ago when legendary pictures said they were going to tackle a Godzilla film D:

Well, back then it was Legendary saying they were talking to Toho about possibly maybe making a Godzilla movie of their own without an answer from Toho.

Now we have actual confirmation that Toho said yes so we can start wondering what will actually happen now.

As long as they do it right. 98 was a bad year for the G-man. Only thing that was good about that movie was when the reporter said Godzilla in reference to the old man, and the blond chick was like "He said Gojira you idiot!"

That's not possible; Toho owns the character and franchise (and all related films and characters). If they made a film on their own, it wouldn't get off the ground, because they would be slapped with a Cease & Desist before their morning cup 'o joe. Basically, at the time, Legendary was trying to stir up fan interest so they could have something they could point at and go, "See, Toho? America's still interested in a Godzilla movie so could we have the rights to make one, please?"
