Why is this news? So a set of parents have decided to do something that forces their personal beliefs on their child. This happens everyday with everyone. If this upsets you in anyway than you are just being intolerant because this set just thinks differently than you do. Whether this is bad or good for the child is hard to say, it will probably be difficult for it some people have a nearly irrational adherence to gender roles that borders on gospel for them. Gender is fluid concept anyway, so relaying on it too much is rather stupid.

As a final note people still haven't learned the difference between gender and sex. In short sex refers with what you have and gender is how you act.

Isn't forcing a parent's beliefs kinda counter-productive? Kids like to rebel. If you bring them up in fanatically religious household, kid grows up atheist. You bring them up without gender - kid runs off to be a lumberjack (if born with penis) or a beauty pageant queen (if born with vagina)

Not really, more often than not it is a passive process. It is (usually) only when it becomes a significant aspect of the parent-child dynamic that the two parties are at loggerheads. Even if they do rebel there is still a chance that the hild will ultimately come to agree with the parent
