The Expendables - Talk UP!

I'm torn.

So far the responses from you guys have been pretty positive, but some of my friends on an action filmmaking forum I frequent have basically ripped it apart. I guess that's to be expected from a bunch of action nerds, but even those guys can appreciate nostalgic fun, so I'm starting to have some doubts, which is sad because there should be no way this concept could go wrong. :disappoin

Ok specifically, it skates along the very very thin line of trying too hard but not crossing it - in fact, it skates that line SO closely and SO well that it turns out in the end to be a pretty kick ass film. I will say though, you are going to have to hang the elitist hat up at the door.

I'm surprised they didn't do as many parodies of their old films...

Not!

After reading unanimously awful reviews I've just decided to skip it entirely. No reason to tarnish my outlook on any of these action legends unless unavoidable.

This movie was okay. I enjoyed it but there wasn't much character development and some of the editing on the fights were horrible. The Dolph Lundgren/Jet Li fight was the one I was looking forward to the most but it was heavily edited with quick up-close shots. I swear that all I saw during this fight was a bunch of arms swinging at each other. Other than that, the movie was still cool to see. Wish Van Damme was in this film too. I liked the in-jokes during the Stallone/Arnold/Willis scene too. Arnold tells Stallone's character that since he likes to play in the jungle, he should accept the mission. Lol....

I enjoyed it. Fun little movie, but it is an ACTION movie and only an ACTION movie it seems. The explosions, fights, and gun shots were all cool, but I had a hard time understanding Sylester Stallone (big shocker there) and a few of the others guys. That and I did wonder what some of the characters were thinking when they mad some dumb choices.

Also Jet Li would have totally beaten that big guy up! He shouldn't have needed help! In fact, if they had gotten rid of everyone and replaced them with Jet Li clones, this movie would be even better!

But that's just my two cents.
