Terminator Salvation - Talkback

I thought it was pretty incredible and I put it on the level of Star Trek. I heard it got some bad reviews and I totally don't understand.

It got a mixed reception, some people just judge a movie on different aspects than others. Initially most of the critics and those that view movies like critics gave the movie negative reviews. But now that more critics have seen it there's a good mix amongst the critics between positive and negative. Ebert gave the movie a two and said "gives you all the pleasure of a video game without the bother of having to play it." While the New York Daily gave it a 4 out of 5. Although the movie is still at a 34% on Rotton Tomatoes (a rating based on a collective of qualified critics) with a consensus of "With storytelling as robotic as the film's iconic villains, Terminator Salvation offers plenty of great effects but lacks the heart of the original films." On IMDB holds a 7/10, but you can't really trust IMDB since its just full of gullible idiots that rate every movie 10 stars 6 times in a row. I do find it weird that some critics like Rechtshaffen put down the movie for not having Arnold.

It's box office return would be an issue if you want to see the franchise be continued. And I dont think NATM2 had that much of an effect on its business. The movies have totally different target audiences.

says Box Office Mojo.

"Night at the Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian", the first family film in the marketplace since "Monsters vs. Aliens", easily took the top spot at the Memorial Day holiday weekend box-office. 'Museum' pulled in $15.3 million in its Friday opening and jumped to $20 million on Saturday. At present estimates have it at a $53.5M three-day and $65-70M four-day holiday haul.

Yeah, I know it lost to NATM2, but it attracted mainly kids and large families. Not exactly the same type of people that were going to go watch T4 anyways.

Just got back from seeing it and I got to say I really liked it! Not as good as T2, but I didn't expect it to be. But still good, especially since it pretty much ignored the crap-fest that was T3.

See I don't buy that. That's like saying a person that would like Friday the 13th wouldn't go and see an animated toon movie for kids.

No it didn't... it followed what we saw after T3 (which was awesome) and even kept the same girlfriend he met that's now his wife.

I don't get why some people are always hating on T3. I thought it was damn good. It wasn't as good as T2, but it had a great story.

The situation can't really be reversed. Yes a teen or adult that would go see Terminator would also go see a Night at the Museum 2 but most parents taking out their kids would not take them to see Terminator. That should be a given. And it just doesn't need to be that, people that just don't prefer action movies would go to Night at the Museum 2 instead of Terminator and people that just don't prefer Ben Stiller movies would go to Terminator instead of Night at the Museum 2. If you ask me most people in the teen to young adult age group would go for Terminator first instead of the Ben Stiller movie.

The situation with Terminator is yes Night at the Museum 2 did take away some of its profit but its marginal since the two have different target audiences.

Saw this on Saturday, and it was good. It wasn't amazing, but it didn't suck.

I went in expecting it to NOT be on the same level as T1 or T2. And it wasn't. Nothing will ever hold a significant place in my heart and my past as those two movies. I remember watching those over and over again with my sister when we were kids.

So seeing T:S on Saturday with her was pretty great....we took moments in the new movie and compared them to the old, often poking fun at it (ie: the song playing on the radio when Connor reprograms the robot motorcycle to ride it is the same song that's playing when his foster father tells him that his mom asked him to clean his room and he was all, "She's not my mother, Todd.", the part when he's breaking into Skynet with the card/pin numbers is exactly like the part in T2 when he was stealing money from an ATM, the end fight scene in Skynet city is like the end scenes in T1 and T2 (the industrial feel))

So yeah, it was fun making fun of it. All the actors did pretty well, and I was super surprised to see Arnold in it (even though he only lended his face for CGI), I gasped when I saw him and I was like, " THAT WAS THE GREATEST MOMENT IN THIS MOVIE EVER."

So yeah. Pretty good....but not SUPER AWESOME.
