Taiko554's Pixel Stage

Gokai Crimson kinda makes me think of this:

I've been wanting to do a sort of makeover on the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers/Zyuranger suits for some time. Tried looking at all kinds of movie suits for inspiration and how to mesh the designs together. I saw some photoshops of the Red Ranger on the GI Joe film armor, and on the Nolan Batman suits, but I wanted to try to do something I hadn't seen before. Nothing really clicked or had me excited to make the new look until I saw the new Tron:Legacy movie. I know, it's been out for close to a year, but I never saw it until this past week.

So this is the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers/Zyuranger suits in a Tron style. I say MMPR first because of the yellow female suit rather than the male in Zyuranger. The basic Tron armor suit is taken from Sam Flynn's suit. Then the bulk of the 'light' designs are meant to look like the original ranger suits with some Tron lines in there as well. I decided to go very minimal on the helmets because the helmets in Tron:Legacy are pretty basic and black. The rangers retain a visor shape similar to (not 100% exactly the same) as the original ranger suits. The helmets also have some remnant of a design from the original helmets as well, but no eyes or protrusions like ears or horns.

I also messed around with some settings in a program in an attempt to make the colors really look like they were lit. Black's light color is more violet, because in Super Sentai and PR, it always seems like black rangers get a violet glow when they transform and stuff. It took a lot of tinkering but I'm fairly happy with this result. I would love some feedback on that particular aspect or advice on how to make it look more lit-up.

Everything here is my hard work. Please don't touch anything without permission. Thanks.

:O_O:

Now those ranger designs are boss! :castlerock:

Thanks very much!

Well, it's Halloween again. This isn't really a Halloween-themed rider as I did before, just an idea kinda fit with the timing.

reaper.png

This is Kamen Rider Reaper, and as his name suggests, he is based off the Grim Reaper (and slightly the Headless Horseman). As such, he's not your typical heroic rider. In the spirit of spooky tales and nursery rhymes, I actually came up with a legend to go with him:

There once was a man, wooed by all evil
Who rode like the wind from Sleepy Hollow.
When put on trial, he received the noose
So his body fell to hell, lost and loose.
From the flames emerged the wicked devil
Who sent the soul back, and hate did follow.
With this new chance, he haunts all the liars
As Hell's very own, a Kamen Rider.

I know the little rhyme's not great, but it was something fun and different to associate with a new rider. Hope you all liked it.

His standard form is on the left. As a grim reaper, he always has his scythe with him. The whole design of the suit is meant to be spooky, kinda like a armored skeleton of sorts. The eyes were a tough decision, but I think orange worked the best, especially with the flames. If you look closely on the left suit, you'll see markings on various parts of his suit. When Kamen Rider Reaper is about to execute his finishing move, these markings start burning, giving Reaper his powered up armor, termed Blazing Reaper. This also affects his scythe, which also gets flames. The more blade part of the scythe stays a blade while the back part (facing the leg) becomes a type of throwing weapon (like a lacrosse stick). Although the flames took me a very long time to do, I really like how they turned out.

I decided to rehaul Kamen Rider Double/W in my own templates. So here he/they is/are!

newkrw.png

Since this is a remade pixel from way long ago, when I used Acatl's template, everything is different. Heck, the weapons and Gaia Memories aren't even the same pixel work or design. I put more effort into the Gaia Memories' letter designs to closer resemble how they look in the show. I actually think it worked out pretty well.

The two heroes got a rehaul pixel design too, obviously. Phillip is on the left and Shotaro Hidari on the right. I like how these two came out this time as well. I think they look a lot better and more accurate now then when I made them before.

And now for Double's forms. On top, from right to left: Cyclone Joker, Heat Metal, Luna Trigger, Fang Joker, and Cyclone Joker Extreme.
In the middle: Cyclone Metal, Cyclone Trigger, Heat Joker, Heat Trigger, Luna Joker, and Luna Metal.
And on the bottom (finally attempted/made after so many people kept asking about it on the old KR Double pic!) Cyclone Joker Extreme Gold in all his shiny winged glory. I tried to make the wings somewhat transparent, and I think I did it right. But damn, those wings took up most of this rehaul project.

The weapons are the Metal Shaft, Trigger Magnum, the Shoulder/Arm/Leg Fang, and the Prism Bicker. As I said up above, the weapons are more accurate (and detailed), especially the Trigger Magnum.

Everything here is my hard work. Please don't touch anything without permission. Thanks.

Thanks very much!

I've got a new, actually rebooted, team to show. Some might remember my Virtueranger team from long ago that were based on the Seven Heavenly Virtues. Here's them, redone (...again).

This time known as "Validus Schola Virtueranger!"
newvirtue-1.png

Unlike before, I decided not to go with seven rangers, one for each virtue, this time around. I know there are Seven Heavenly Virtues, but making seven rangers for a team again just seemed a little redundant. For an explanation of their name. I went the Latin root more than the Japanese or English this time. I thought it'd be a cool thing to try, and it kind of fit with the theme. So "Validus" is translated as 'mighty'. Kind of as a reference to Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. "Schola" can be translated as 'school', but also as 'elite group of soldiers'. The latter is the translation I'm using. Then Virtueranger just references the theme in general. So their name is literally "Mighty Elite Soliders, Virtueranger". I like it.

The Virtueranger team starts off with three in their core team. The core three in their normal ranger suits represent the 3 Theological Virtues. Red is Hope, Blue Faith, and Yellow Charity. In addition, the rangers each have a number designation represented in their helmet, with the highest being the more advanced ranger: Red is three, Blue 2, Yellow 1. They also each have a golden "crown" above their visors that becomes more important in the power up. Better represented in the power up, each ranger has an animal association with Red being a Lion, Blue a Ram, and Yellow a Dove.

In their powered up forms, the rangers represent the 4 Theological Virtues. Red is Fortitude, Blue is Prudence, Yellow is Temperance, and (the 'extra ranger') White is Justice. As an extra ranger, White does not have a standard suit like the others, rather, his transformed state is always in the more armored version. He also has some additional armor than the core three. White's number designation is 4, represented by the four points on the wings of his helmet, and his animal is an Eagle. The core's number designation also shows on their helmets, with the number of extensions representing their number. The core three have lighter armor than White, but also more individual with Red having more angular/spiked shoulder pads and gauntlets, Blue having larger, more blocky shoulder pads and gauntlets, and Yellow having much more rounded armor.

The symbols on their chests represent the virtues they represent in each form, which is why the core three have different symbols in the two forms. In their standard form, the core three's torsos are meant to imitate old crusader tunics. Each has a cross on their torso, but each cross is individualized like their later armors: Red's is more angular, Blue's more blocky, and Yellow's more curvy. The belt buckle is a V for Virtueranger and also "Validus". On the core's first form, the gloves and boots are separated by cross-like shapes. And lastly, the silver on the core three and gold on White's under suit is modeled on chain mail.

When I have a little more time, I'm going to update the team with their civilian forms, and maybe even some weapons. I also have plans to reboot their villains, the Sins. So look forward to that!

Kamen Rider Fourze?

Is that asking if I'll make him? If so, the answer is yes. I've just got some other pixel plans right now. But I am on winter break, so I should have the time to get around to Fourze's awful design.

But now onto the heroes of Validus Schola Virtueranger!
virtuered.png

Red's name is Tim Vaughn. He has a tendency to rush into fights, and has a strong sense of heroic duty: i.e., saving and protecting people, fighting against evil. Tim's animal is the lion and his weapon is called the "Ambitious Blade of the Lion". In his standard suit his virtue is Hope; in the upgrade his virtue is Fortitude.
His roll call changes according to which form he is in:
"Blinding Hope! VirtueRed!"
"Slashing Fortitude! Super VirtueRed!"

virtueblue.png

Blue is Max McKenzie. He's a quiet, passive, genius type. He's not fond of fighting, but is physically the strongest of the Virtueranger when fighting. Max's animal is the ram and his weapon is called the "Trusted Axe of the Ram". In his standard suit his virtue is Faith; in the upgrade his virtue is Prudence.
His roll call changes according to which form he is in:
"Unshaking Faith! VirtueBlue!"
"Guarding Prudence! Super VirtueBlue!"

virtueyellow.png

Her name is Whitney Quinn. She's a little bit of a tomboy when it comes to sports and she tends to think she knows everything, to the chagrin of her teammates. Whitney's animal is the dove, and her weapon is called the "Benevolent Bow of the Dove". In her standard suit her virtue is Charity; in the upgrade her virtue is Temperance.
Her roll call changes according to which form she is in:
"Darting Charity! VirtueYellow!"
"Launching Temperance! Super VirtueYellow!"

virtuewhite.png

His name is Lucas Brooks. As an 'extra ranger', he comes into conflict with the core rangers a lot near the beginning of their story. When he first appears, he has a very clear and cut code of right and wrong. He punishes the truly wicked and even the slightest criminal the same way with no regard to the reason or possible evidence. It is only when he starts to see the worth of the other rangers and begins to trust them that this code of justice changes where he looks for the motives and proof behind crime rather than the face value of the crime. Lucas' animal is the eagle and his weapon is called the "Righteous Spear of the Eagle". He only has one suit, a more armored variation of the core's super forms, and his virtue is Justice.
His roll call:
"Rectifying Justice! VirtueWhite!"

All together end of roll:
"These virtues will drive back the evils of sin! Validus Schola...Virtueranger!"

As with my Hourouranger team, the entire Virtueranger team has shirts from BustedTees.com.
