The World's Greatest Super Heroes become America's most wanted criminals - and are hunted by friends and foes alike - in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, the sixth entry in the popular DVD series of DC Universe Animated Original PG-13 Movies. A co-production of Warner Premiere, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation, the full-length animated film will be distributed by Warner Home Video on September 29, 2009. Superman/Batman: Public Enemies will be available as a Special Edition 2-disc version on DVD and Blu-Ray Hi-Def for US$24.98 (SRP) and US$29.99 (SRP), respectively, as well as single disc DVD for US$19.98 (SRP) and On Demand. Order due date for all versions is August 25, 2009.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies is based on the popular Jeph Loeb/Ed McGuinness comic series/graphic novel. Animation legend Bruce Timm (Superman Doomsday, Green Lantern) is executive producer. Michael Goguen (Justice League: The New Frontier) is supervising producer. Sam Liu (The Batman) is directing a script written by Stan Berkowitz (Justice League: The New Frontier).

Superman In the film, United States President Lex Luthor uses the oncoming trajectory of a Kryptonite asteroid to frame Superman and declare a $1 billion bounty on the heads of the Man of Steel and his "partner in crime," Batman. Heroes and villains alike launch a relentless pursuit of Superman and Batman, who must unite - and recruit help - to stave off the action-packed onslaught, stop the asteroid, and uncover Luthor's devious plot to take command of far more than North America.

The movie reunites the lead voices of Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor from the landmark Superman: The Animated Series and Batman: The Animated Series. Tim Daly (Private Practice), Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League) and Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption) reprise their roles as Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor, respectively.

[hide]It's pretty much just Batman and Superman making everyone out for the bounty look like morons and Captain Atom's group play even LESS of a role. Why were they even there? Lex was sorely underplayed, but there's quite a dose of dark comedy around his character. The scenes where he hugs, then later kisses Amanda Waller...:laugh:

The precious few doses of interior continuity Loeb uses arent here, and other things inherant to the story itself arent here either...as such, Atom and Power Girl's character arcs go nowhere and they end up in the role of belated sidekicks despite very promising build-up. Atom was one of the best things about the real story, and they even took his moment of sacrifice away from him here..not only does Bruce succeed in destroying the Asteroid, he survives the explosion because the main control module is detatched from the robot and drifts in space until Supes picks it up. Everyone survives.

Lexcorp Tower isnt destroyed, it doesnt even show up.

The Superman/Batman robot, the worst part of Loeb's story, remained intact...the kid who designed it looked a little to stereotypically anime-like.

Aside from that, it's all there the Metallo murder, the Batman/Superman chatter. Amanda Waller got a large part too. A very DCAU-friendly movie...but like the Loeb version, it's basicly just Batman and Superman cleaning house and nobody else is intended to look capable of sharing their spotlight.

Lex comes into power during the recession, and he makes his first speech Obama-style...hmm...looks like we got a reason for Lex not being black here.:thumbs:

These DCAU movies are consistently overhyped. I thought the animation was second-to-none, Ed's work really does look dynamite on-screen, and, for once, it was nice to see one of the least angsty D.C stories adapted (certaingly the least depressing Loeb would stoop to) as there's far too many series and comics where good doesnt often overcome evil in the way it does here.

Very much a "bad guys suck" movie, but like a lot of these overhyped moves, download it, don't buy it.[/hide]

It's very retrospective that they not only used the same animated-style similar to the comic book, but it's even cooler that they got Kevin Conroy, Clancy Brown, and Tim Daly reprising their roles in this one. Of course, I was assuming that they would pick George Newborn, but eh..I guess Tim Daly was the better "Man of Steel" than Newborn.

Batman and Superman having one big brawl in a 70 minutes movie? I enjoyed it, although wasn't exactly interesting of stories. Better than the other two Superman animated movies released in the past few years.

I quite liked the main theme too. Always nice to hear Brown and Conroys voices.
