Super Sentai VS Power Rangers

This is often a hot-button topic to say the least. ..and while everyone is very optimistic about Dragon Knight one thing to consider is that basically now Kamen Rider will be subject to this kind of conflict to.

My impression is that this very debate is one of the biggest reasons Keith created the site in the first place because he had a strong desire on his part to have sentai fans and fans who are coming from PR to be able to coexist.

I know which way I vote. Yet I came to sentai out of my dissatisfaction with Power Rangers. So even though I know which way I'm voting I have to wonder that if I had never stopped and asked myself why am I watching this show when I hate it and figuring out what it aspects of it I was enjoying would I have sought out the original Japanese versions. Then from there discovering more about sentai history, watching Kamen Rider Black and being there when Kuuga and TimeRanger hit.

To me there is a quality to sentai that ultimately just strikes me as much more sincere than PR. I'm not sure how to explain that but it's the only word that conveys what I'm trying to say.

There's also just a lot of little things that I enjoy about it in comparrsion to the "adaptation". I enjoy the music more, I like the acting more, the henshins more, the character concepts, and really the totally unapologetic spiritedness of it all.

Power Rangers was always created to be a cash cow, pump out a lot of episodes with the least amount of effort possible. While, on the other hand, Sentai is actually developed from the ground up. Costume design, writing, product design, etc.

Power Rangers is limited on what it can do -- So it stays in the safe zone to just do enough but it won't stretch the limits. This is probably the reason why fans of sentai tend to dislike PR because of how it adapts to American themes and twists and turns the Sentai plotline to appeal to us just keeping the bare minimums intact.

Personally, I like both. There are some seasons of sentai that just suck balls while others really had me going -- same for Power Rangers. I can't really pick and chose.

Very well put indeed.

I wish people were more willing to act grown up and debate why the different versions appeal to them in a civilized way as well. Aren't we all into basically the same thing? I might not even know about toku if not for Power Rangers, and I still enjoy popping out my tape with Trouble with Shellshock and Calamity Kimberly every once in a while. And even though I have less hope of them being rewarded every year, I'm there giving the new season of PR a chance year after year.

My main complaint against Power Rangers is I think its very presence hurts our chances of getting the original shows available legitimately outside Japan. I'd find it convenient to be able to skip all the business with torrents, walk into Best Buy and walk out with a Dairanger series set.

I'm gonna go with both, just because I really liked Power Rangers when I was little, and I really like Super Sentai now. I feel that you should never forget what made you happy in the past. It's also really convenient that you can get Sentai toys here in America, because of Power Rangers' existence, for a much cheaper price, albeit with slightly dumbed-down quality.

That's the way I look at it. Because it use to be such a huge part of my life, I can't really hate it. No matter what disney decides to do with it
