SPOILERS: Your thoughts on Hina

By "better things to do" I mean she isn't automatically relegated to being a walking mallet-swinger. She actually is a recognizable character in the show instead of either one-way comic relief or window dressing. She's been a helping force in at least three arcs so far, and a driving force in one.

I'm confused when I see people say Hina doesn't "do much."A character doesn't have to henshin or punch/kick things to be a valid, significant character. As of right now she's been proven to be crazy strong, a helpful person by nature, emotionally wise, someone who can thwart a kidnapping attempt in two seconds, and able to hold her own against kaiju (depending on strength, naturally.) She doesn't constantly boo-hoo about her brother even after finding out about the truth. She takes it in stride and makes sure Ankh knows that he'd better do his job. Girl multitasks all over the place in a way I haven't seen too many Heisei Rider females do.

Hell, she strikes me as more dimensional than Gotou at the moment. While I really like Gotou, he's JUST NOW starting to change--before then he was constantly just RARGH I WANNA SAVE THE WORLD WHY DID OOO GET THE MEDALS AND I DIDN'T. Over and over.
This so much.
You don't have to be a fighter or even a man with boobs in this type of series to be useful. It takes more than one type of character to make a story well-rounded . . . and everyone being Bruce Lee in disguise would get ridiculous. A character like Hina is a burst of fresh air in this particular season. I like the fact that she is girly and cute but has a super strength that is in direct contrast with her girliness and cuteness. I enjoy her story with both the lead characters, Eiji and Ankh. I have a vested interest in her like I have for them.

I love Akiko but I refuse to compare the two. The only thing they have in common is the fact that they are female leads in the story so it is not fair to either character and not only that, but they had two different male leads to deal with. Who knows how Hina would react to Shotarou(if he was trying to copy her brother's personality and, in her eyes, failing miserably)? And who knows how Akiko would act around Eiji? She might decide that she has a "crush" on him and treat him like she treated Terui. :disappoin

When she sprayed Uva with the fire extinguisher it helped her get away and hide. It was a pretty smart move.

I agree. She's not really tricksy or scheming, but she can think strategically. She was remarkably level-headed when faced with Uva and then trying to escape from the van, both of those made me warm up to her a lot

Here we go - "man with boobs." It comes right back to the basic assumption that female characters should be girly and cute, and it's not "feminine" or appropriate for them to fight like a man. That belief is the main reason why Hina is popular with fans and Akiko and Hana get a less warm reception.

Hey, Terui liked it. He married her  Eiji would become hilariously awkward if a girl hit on him like that, though

How did you get that out of what I said? I do like man with boob female characters and think they deserve love, too. But there is nothing wrong with characters like Hina, either. It is just as sexiest to be offended by a character like her than being offended by a character like G. I. Jane.

The very fact that you say "man with boobs" is where I get it from. The term implies that a woman who fights like a man isn't really a woman, because what she is doing isn't appropriate for her sex

But fighting is not just a man thing. Common sense and history tells us that much so going off on a tirade about that doesn't make much sense.
And the 'man with boobs' statement still doesn't even bring to mind that said character isn't worthy of love or inferior/superior to the other type. :loltongue:

Even though Hina is the partial to being a cookie cutter character, she's still rather nice to have around

The relationship between Hina and Eiji doesn't particularly feel forced at all, though there probably a bit of affection from Hina since Eiji is selflessly looking after her brother's body
