This film didn't build anything new at all! It was just a way to close the damn trilogy or something!
But that's good! We did get Eddie brock and the new element was Peter's new attitude. But we didnt need anything "new" or build something new. What we got was an excellent conclusion to characters that had developed so wonderfully over the past couple movies.
I have to agree with Knight, that Venom was never that deep. He was black and white, basic villain stuff. The "dark version" of the hero who later wanted help. But you know, this isnt about the villains. This movie wasnt about Venom. You should be saying "We didnt get enough time with Eddie!". I would have loved more time with Eddie. But I thought the build up to Venom, with Eddie's growing hatred of Parker, was very well played. It was as if Peter's own ego and bad karma grew a life of it's own and Peter had to face that at the end. Not to mention he gave Parker the fight of his life.
I think some people will just judge the movie by Venom alone. "oh they didnt do him justice" but the one thing I love about the movies is that they are not about the villains. They are about Peter Parker. And I think this movie knocked a home run in that regard. Eddie was built up wonderfully, in relation to Parkers new attitude.
and omg how could you be dissapointed by Harry's role? He had a fantastic role! He showed so many emotions, it was fantastic getting to see him as a friend to Peter Parker again, and showing love toward MJ. That sinister smile he gave parker, the personal fight they had in the mansion. Harry didnt have a large roll, no. But his role was still important to the character development of Parker and others in this movie. And when he came in and helped Peter save MJ at the end. The ultimate sign of forgiveness. That they could put the past behind them, after all that had been done.
They handled his character the best way they could have in my opinion. There's no way he could have been evil the entire movie. Because the writers would have to worry how they would give Peter some breathing room in between action shots. Harry would always be looming over Peter, knowing his secret. So losing his memory was the only way to go and it was perfect in so many ways.
See, you're looking at Harry as a villain and not as a character. He got to show so much progression and so much emotion in this movie.
Oh well, Im rambling. You dont have to love love the movie. Its kewl, as long as you still enjoyed yourself. We all have different tastes
