Spider-Man 3 - Talkback *SPOILERS*

I can tell from the trailers and promos that it's gonna suck.

All they did was translate the comic. Not enough originality.

:P :169:

But I thought that's what everyone wanted, translation. "omg he has organic webbing instead of shooters omg!!"

I wasn't planning on seeing this movie right away, but my friend showed up today asking me to go. Then he offered to pay for it. Cheap ass that I am, I couldn't pass that up.

Over all, I enjoyed it. There was a good balance of action and drama. That's the major thing I went into it hoping for.

I was pleased that they actually filmed it in NY, the same as the setting. I don't know if the first two were done that way, but this one was. The bridge on which MJ told Peter she was leaving him is actually a bridge in Central Park. Props to them for matching the location and setting.

The CGI fights were well done. Pretty much what I expected them to be, given how much this movie cost to make.

My only complaint is that it felt rushed. I can't believe I'm saying that with it being 2 1/2 hours long, but still. It felt like there was no build up to anything. Instead it just happened, one major event after another. Some people like that type of story telling, but for me they could've slowed things down a little. The different twists in the story needed time to sink in. Just a minor complaint though. For the most part, I enjoyed it. Its certainly worth seeing.

[hide]This was a solid, and very deep film.

Venom is overrated, a gimmick character who has only been properly explored in a handful of storylines . Raimi is a Lee/Dikito/Romita pursit and developed the characters that HE cares about, he's said on record he used Venom at the insistence of Marvel and under absolute protest. The original ideas were to use The Vulture, The Chamelion, or Mysterio alongside Sandman and Harry.

Raimi has since become a fan of Venom, and given how the character met his fate, I can see him returning pretty convincingly for the fourth, but Marvel are to blame the most for rushing the character.

The Symbiote aspect of the storyline was developed superbly though, right down to the effects it had on Peter. A lot more comically executed than the way it affected him in the cartoon (the definitive version of the story), but the battle with Sandman, Peter boasting that he had "killed" him, and the Jazz Club dance scene, leading to his punching out MJ added to the more dramatic and gripping parts of Peter's corruption.

Sandman was handled very well, they used the modern version of his character, a flawed, humane outlaw who suffers from misunderstandings and poor circumstance, and created a humble villain who did'nt want to be involved in the bigger picture, but the love of his daughter forced him to be there all the time. The final exchange between himself and Peter is astoundingly emotional.

And then Harry's arc was the best portion, the one villain who finds not only success in his insidious schemes, but also finds redemption, saving Peter's life at the cost of his own, but prior to this inflicting near permanent damage on Pete and MJ's relationship, damage that remains ambigious as to whenever or not it endured or was repaired by the end of the film[/hide]

The Lizard work work, so would the classic Kraven story "Kraven's Last Hunter" as a story basis

Connors can use what he was researching of the symbiote's regenerative properties in his experiments and create the serum that transforms him into The Lizard rather than restore his lost limb, Spidy can't contain him alone, and beats him with help from the outside (maybe bring in a new vigilante hero, like The Black Cat), a psychotic and depraved Kraven The Hunter comes to town, beats Spidy, buries him alive, MJ copes with weeks without Peter, Kraven becomes Spidy, defeats an escaped Lizard, Spidy busts out the grave (movie poster alert, movie poster alert) and defeats Kraven, then tries to prove himself against The Lizard on his own rather than with help (Black Cat could be incapcitated by Kraven earlier)

So, uh, why did we need Sandman in this?

For any further movies, I'm holding onto hope for either Mysterio or Rhino as the villains.
