Sometimes..traditional in Super Sentai that need to be broken down.

I'm all for equality...but at the same time....I don't WANT female rangers stuck with the crappy weapons. If a cool Pink ranger is a sharpshooter? I'd much rather that than she use an axe or something lame.

(It wasn't the fact that Zack had an axe that he was cool. It was the fact that said axe became a gun.)

I'll give Toei its due there, they seem to have no problem with women wielding enormous guns. Even untransformed (the Boukenger girls)

If you don't care about me or my problems, then why did you ask if it harms me to see sexism go on? The only conclusion I can take from this is that you aren't actually particularly interested in what any of us have to say on the matter are just using a roundabout way to tell us to shut up and stop talking about it.

The soapbox thing was a joke.

you made it seem that you have first hand experience a form of abuse from actual sexism (which is the harm I am speaking of). Maybe you have I dont know, hence why I said I dont care to know, I mean that is personal stuff...and i wouldnt want you to bring that up. Its not that I am not interested, I know alot of people that go through abuse it makes me feel at odds when Im told stuff like that. It wasnt a way for me to get you to shut up..sorry if it seemed like that.

OH, boy...I believe I'm going to be neutral as of right now. Not getting myself get involved in this situation that you guys are discussing now. All this talk of nonsense about sexism and all.

I'm going to back off now. Good god. I'm thinking of going to ask a mod to have this thread locked. But I'm not going to.

Well, carry on. Be good.

Of course it harms me to see other people oppressed! It's outrageous to me that someone could think otherwise.

The entire point of oppressing individuals is to make all members of the group think, "What if I'm next?" By abusing a few people, you can intimidate many into silence and inaction. You can even make them turn on the victims.

Here, think about this:

Look I dont know if it does harm you, some people say they do just to make a point. Look I am of Mexican decent, and I live it Texas. For years I would be harassed and picked on because I am mexican, now I get crap because I look a middle eastern person, so I do have a right to stand up for myself.

Anyway, you have sited a good quote, but you cant always expect someone to say something...

Ah, no. You do not have to be a firsthand victim of abuse to want to speak out when you see institutionalized sexism/racism/oppression taking place in your culture or another.

How is that my fault? I'm just not very happy at how this thread has becomes as of late. All this talk nonsense about sexism. All we can discuss about the colors and all.

Tell me, what does sexism has to do with this?! I'm very displeased.

Um, yes. As a woman (as a human, for heaven's sake), it harms me when sexism happens, in any culture. Ergo I have the right to complain and tell others that it's wrong when I see that it goes on.

The problems with sexism in Japanese media are very similar to the ones in American media and it is worthwhile to discuss those issues in a public forum, because even if we can't influence Toei's products directly, we can help to shape the attitudes of anyone reading our posts, some of whom may be in a position to shape or create the media of the future.

(Seriously guys I wish you'd stop making me drag out this soapbox. It's heavy and I don't like public speaking.)

Sexism is bad yes, but the stuff LC rants on about is NOT sexism.

Essentially, the question arose from why is there always the same set up of Red being male, and colors like blue, white, yellow are usually associated with female cast. And LC analyzed the situation the stereo typical roles associated with the old social construct which sexism is brought out of. And then it snowballed.

I didnt mean it is your fault, but if you read the title you placed on this discussion, people can easily take the title as a discussion of sexism.
