Some good things go-buster did in super sentai

Nah. Then you would have an organization that claims to handle natural disasters but every case they face involves bad guys causing mischief. And being annoying.

The point i was getting at is that Go-Busters was so unique that it could have easily been it´s own show, independent from the Super Sentai Franchise.

I like the Rescue Force comparison because i really loved that show; it took the basic idea of Sentai and it took it into an unique direction becoming its own thing in the process. Even when they introduced Rescue Max, the show still had a very unique flavor to it. On the other hand we had Rescue Fire, a show that while not necessarily bad it leaned too much towards the Sentai formula and it lost the appeal that Rescue Force Had.

Basically, Go-Busters was good enough and had enough fresh ideas floating around that it didn´t need to be a Super Sentai, and i would even argue that the SS banner actually hurt the show; as i said, the main problem with Go-Busters was that it was rejected by its audience because it was not the Super Sentai they wanted.

Funnily enough, if there is one things that baffles me about the whole retool deal is that one of the greatest achievements of Go-Busters was making the Mecha fights cool again, and yet here we are 2 years later and no one has managed to match what Go-Busters did. You would figure that if there was one thing of Go-Busters that the following shows would try to surpass, it would be that.

This entire thread makes me happy, because Go-Busters deserves more props than it gets. I dunno why I like Go-Busters. It just appeals to me.

You might be right go-buster should have been its own show to start its own franchise rather being a super sentai if it has no elements used for super sentai and i agree with th mecha fights they look cool and also about other sentai shows that wont follow what go-busters did.

Well i am glad you like the show. :)

It gets plenty of "props" ...

Yeah its too bad go buster ended in the ranking of bad sentai but in a future time they will be vindicated in history as a good super sentai series that almost changed the franchise just like how Kamen rider amazon did.

I don't understand this. If by "vindicated by history" you mean English-speaking fans will like it more in the future, you may be right. But it's not a Jetman or a Dekaranger, one of the few truly outstanding Sentai that are remembered in Japan after their time. And its performance in terms of objective figures will always stand.

I'm not sure how you can say "it almost changed the franchise." It tried and failed to change the franchise, which is not quite the same thing

It didn't try to change the franchise, though -- or try very hard, anyway. Anything "new" Go-busters brought was very on the surface. Maybe if the show had more balls to do new things rather than PRETEND to do new things, which were all really just superficial things (OMG! Leather outfits! OMG! Shaky cam mecha battles! OMG! Look how cool they are with their sunglasses!), people wouldn't have fallen asleep to the show.

Go-busters, first and foremost, needed a producer who didn't think she was above the franchise and a good writer who wasn't burned out seven shows ago. (Kobayashi has yet to do one completely solid show. People like to make fun of Inoue, but at least he's accomplished that.)

I will say that I think Go-busters gets more hate than it probably deserves. Its biggest crime was being boring. There's a lot of other shows out there with worse sins that get worship. (Kyoryuger.) Go-busters had ingredients to be a better show, the staff just didn't want to bother. Actually, judging by how people tend to praise the first dozen episodes, the only dedicated staff member was probably sub-producer Gou Wakamatsu, and he got the boot for reasons unrelated to the show. So it ended up just being really half-hearted, because Takebe is one of the bean-counting execs rather than a creative one.

Who can say, though? Toei likes to rewrite history. They're now trying to sell Shinkenger as "the most popular Sentai of all time," when that's a load of crap -- even Shinkenger's biggest fans can list about 500 things they hate about the show -- so they could eventually spin Go-busters as being a cult hit and try to drum up interest in it from there. (The same way they later tried to blame Ohranger's suckiness on real life tragedies when, being a Sugimura show, that show was doomed to having a schizoid tone from the start. Look at those dumb villains -- how "serious" was the show going to be? Those terrible designs were done well before those events occurred.)

I wouldn't quite say the most ardent of Shinkenger's fans are quite so harsh on it - but Toei actually said that? Seriously? Not Jetman or something?

I don't think it helped Go-Busters that the crew seemed to have an incredibly immature, childish approach - look at the Doubutsu movie, which is basically their televised tantrum over the show not being better received. I have also heard it suggested that certain of ToQger's choices (such as Nijino being comically suicidal) are Kobayashi hitting back at the negative reception to Go-Busters although I have no idea how true that is

Its biggest crime was being boring.

This is one of the most common complains i hear about Go-Busters and it is one that i have to argue against because it is far too subjective.

Now, i have seen a lot of Toku, both modern and classic, and even with that background i did not found to be Go-Busters to be boring. In fact, i was so throughly entertained by it that i actually looked forward to it more than i did for Fourze.

I think that Go-Busters itself is not boring, but it does have a very particular style that won´t appeal everyone. If you dig it, then the show is really immersive and compelling, but if you don´t, then it is boring. So i really don´t think that it is objective to say that Go-Busters is boring since, depending on one´s mindset, it can be anything but.

As much as i love the show, i doubt this will ever happen.

The Go-Busters situation is very much like Hibiki´s; you had a show that dared to be unique, but it got retooled once it failed to reach it´s audience and we ended up with a show that while it has good elements on it, it does not feel complete.

If i were to rank my favorite Sentai series, i wouldn´t know where to put Go-Buster because while i do love the first half, after the retool the show loses a lot of the things that made it compelling, so i cannot say that i got the "full" Go-Busters experience.

So my guess is that a few years from now people will not see Go-Busters as an uncomprehended master piece, but as a controversial show that some people will love, some will hate and most won´t care.

Just like Hibiki.

Though amusingly, while Hibiki's Takatera (as the story goes) didn't want to agree with Bandai and add more toys in, Go-Busters' Takebe was probably more than happy to.

To be honest, I think the only really good thing you can say about Go-Busters was that it was so incredibly dull that it put any complaints about other Sentai series into perspective, because no matter how bad they got at least you could start an episode and not wake up in a daze three hours later finding that you'd somehow gone to sleep and the house had burnt down while you were unconscious.

I don't really get the idea that it was 'dark', either, although even if it was that wouldn't have made it good. Oh no, a major character and a few minor characters had peaceful deaths with no lasting consequences. How alarming. I am alarmed.
