The executive branch can't really dance around, making and passing bills as it pleases. I think Congress does that, though I think most of the time they're just dancing.

I dunno man, there was an awful lot of dancing and bill passing under W. With nowhere near the numbers or approval the Democrats have right now.

Actually I bet this map and idea is just a take off of Nine Nations of North America, a book published back in 1981. But instead of dividing it based around actual regional characteristics he just did it randomly. Now that I look at more it seems closer to the remains of the USA in Ghost in the Shell.

And if anyone here seriously believes that America will fall because of the current circumstances that quickly is delusional. If the civil rights movement didn't break America into pieces some discontent over taxes and public spending isn't going to come close. And frankly the whole "Tea Party" movement actually hurt itself by "winning" in Massachusetts. Seeing that the Republican political tactic was that they would vote no on everything as a symbolic stand against Democrats since with the super majority they didn't have to do anything. But now that they can filibuster their actions can now be seen as stalling the system instead of fighting it. And if any of the bills that have been passed actually improves conditions they have sacrificed long term gains for a short term bump. And yes this has to do with topic, as this is how the whole affair is being portrayed when it isn't be sidetracked by paranoid rants that would give General Ripper a run for his money. Frankly I hate the super majority gives too much power to a small group of holdouts. If you actually construct a bill based around bi-partisan support you can actually craft a better one since it excises the favors that are given fringe party elements.

But actually people have overlooked the whole issue that forced this bill in first place, in America health care has become profit driven. And if that doesn't fill you with dread that could left to die just to improve some company's bottom line then you have bigger problems that worrying about this bill. I am sorry if this seems rambling but this whole thing is a bunch of crap. The left sees Obama as some sort of messiah figure and expects him to perform political miracles while the right has driven itself in fervour because they think that for some reason everyone wants to dismantle everything they hold important. Do you want to know what all politicians really want? To keep their jobs from term to term, in part that due the 27th Amendment any pay increase doesn't take effect until the after the next election and all the sweet swag they get from lobbyists. Now I am going back to think about superheroes.

A standard rating is more like 60%. People just had absurdly high hopes for Obama, I think.

That he even passed this watered-down health care bill in the face of very stiff opposition is astonishing compared to past Presidents.

A confluence of events imo with the 2 biggest being.

1) Obama making health care the make or break issue of the Democrats
2) The GOP controlled government doing such a horrible job that the Democrats were able to regain control of both Houses

Will this hurt small business at all? I mean some of the owners of those business's could be classified as wealthy, but in reality they arn't. Would this hurt them?

That's an issue that's hazy and I think one of the better Repub objections to the current version of the bill. In theory, it shouldn't, because small businesses should be providing health care for all of their full-time employees anyway.

In reality, there are probably small businesses will probably have to provide better insurance than they have been. Some businesses may do away with employees due to cost or use more part-time people.

I can't see anyone go out of business over this. If your business is struggling anyway, tho, I could see it serving as the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

Aaah healthcare... one of those increasingly complex problems facing every nation in the world.

Public healthcare is a giant monster with good intention and private healthcare is a cold soulless but efficient machine...there's gotta be some sort of balance somewhere to make it so health isn't a priviledge of the wealthy.

Even attempting to find one is better than just sitting on the status quo.
