Shin Getter Robo- Armageddon

Now this isn't the Shin Getter OVA that I watched (This animation was a lot older than the newer one)... But I did manage to catch one clip of this anime, and god dang it was epic. Never though I'd like older Super Robot anime (Other than Voltron and Voltes V), but I gotta say, even though I haven't watched it fully, this has some excellent story writing. I'll watch this when I have the time... But from the looks of it thus far, it seem really good. Has anyone else watched this? Not sure if this is an OVA or not.

It's a 13-episode OVA. This is my most favorite of the 3 Getter Robo remakes/retellings.

Yeah i have it on dvd, it's like 3 discs so it's a few episodes long
Officially, it's 4 DVDs.

This OVA borrows stuff from older Ken Ishikawa works, specifically Majuu Sensen and Skull Killer Jakiou, aside from the various Getter Robo manga.

There is also a reference to Grendizer.

Some of the rejected character/mecha designs of this show would later make it into Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo, New Getter Robo, and the Getter Robo Daikessen video game.

What I like the most about GR: Armageddon is that it's basically nothing but fanservice for Getter fans. There are fight scenes taken from and tons of other references to all of the GR manga that Ishikawa did. I also liked that they based the animation on the original TV show instead of the manga.

Hold up, when did this happen?

Thanks for confirming that it was a 13-ep OVA, wildwolf.

In case anyone was wondering... The scene that I caught from this anime happened on the the third part of episode 11.

I almost cry every time I see this epic scene. In case the vid doesn't work, its the Stoner Sunshine scene.

I apologize if this contains a little spoiler or three.

Shin Getter Robo Armageddon is pretty damn awesome. It has one of the most epic endings of any super robot anime.

Huh, I never knew about that. Thanks for the info, as well as the scans. (I always wondered where Stinger and Coen came from.)

This was my first real introduction to the classic "Super Robot" genre, and is still one of my absolute favorites.

Shurikenger, if you dig this series I would recommend checking out Koutetsushin Jeeg. It's another epic follow up to a classic robot show, and like Getter Robo Armegeddon it doesn't require too much knowledge of the original going in.
