The official DVD's are tremendously high-quality; a LOT better than the kind of direct television rips that TV-Nihon uses, or that you'd see in raws. That and they usually have at least some special features which are pretty cool. When DVD sales are high, the producers know when they've done a good thing.

For people who don't understand Japanese though, the important question is whether the dvds also have subtitles? I've thought about getting import dvds from japan off the net for some time due to their high quality, but it wouldn't do any good if I couldn't understand what the characters are talking about.

Yeah they have subs. Japanese ones. Sort of sucks but R2 doesn't often cater to other languages. Why should they? The main one spoken is Japanese.

Hmm, I guess the foreign market isn't big enough for them to cater to since it's just people like us who could do with english subs.

I'm just sayin', that's why people buy the R2's, that and to feel like they're supporting the shows they enjoy. The difference in quality between a R2 and a TV-Nihon encode is comparable to the TV-Nihon encode and the YouTube upload.

Even if they didn't come with subs, I've always wanted to have Agito and Hibiki R2s so I could actually support the show directly, and like Bolt said, the quality is a lot better on the DVDs. Currently I've got two volumes of Agito and three of Hibiki.

I'll be getting the Kabuto R2s for the reasons Bolt mentioned: superb quality and lots of extra's like datafiles and so on.
Blue, how are those Agito and Hibiki DVD's? I haven't got any of either show and I was wondering about quality and extra's...
