Sentai vs. Kamen Rider

Honestly? I can't choose between these two. Because they are like water and oil to me. Each offers different elements and they both have their flaws, weakpoints, and conversely, goodpoints and things to be praised. Having seen every New Gen Sentai series and most of the Old Gen Sentai (sans dynaman, goranger, Battle Fever J, and Jakq), I'd have to say that I really can't decide which I like better. Just like I can't really decide vs. that proverbial New Gen vs. Old Gen debate.

Sentai has team dynamics which are fun and lead to interesting places for characters, lots of zany behaviors, and poignant storylines and connections. It's got big colorful mechas and spandex-suited heroes in multi-colored patterns.

KR has a whole individuality thing going, definitely more shades and levels of personalities, and cool bikes; it's "darker n' stuff" but really, I can't choose. They both entertain me on different levels for different things.

And Aba is good. It tried to break the mold, and I think it succeeded for its efforts, and Nakadai rocks. So do dancing and piano playing dinosaurs - even if that's quite a bit of crack for one ep. Still, it took every typical and warranted Sentai element and tossed that together with its own brand of uniqueness and crack to come up with a good, entertaining storyline that gets fleshed out and still maintained all the dark stuff with the crack-filled humor. I'd definitely say yes to it JC. :anime:

Well, to be honest, the shows that I've watched from the 1st ep onwards would be boukenger & kabuto but just by referring to those two, I'd have to go with kamen rider. To me, the kamen rider series is more plot-driven and engages the viewer more than sentai. Also you can see somewhat of a pattern in sentai. One sentai member has a problem, bad guy goon comes to stir up ****, the member takes down the goon with the rest of the team, thereby solving his/her problem. End of story. That pattern kinda turns me off, I'd prefer something that keeps me guessing with its plot twists and turns.

You don't really see that kind of thing very often in kamen rider. I get more goosebumps every time I see that TV-N's released a new ep of kabuto than I get with boukenger, that says something for kamen rider.

Now it'd be a whole different story if we were comparing Masked Rider & Power Rangers...

And seeing that Kamen Rider seems to be getting more votes than Sentai, perhaps some of y'all might wanna tell us what Kamen Rider had that Super Sentai doesn't.

Well on a show-for-show basis, I think Rider hits the mark more for me. Some would say Kamen Rider having periodic lapses is a strike against it, whereas Sentai has been going strong year after year, but I think the flip side of it is Kamen Rider's breaks give them time to come up with some new ideas, time to revamp the franchise, and each series feels a little more special than just "this year's show". I think Sentai would benefit from taking a few years off, or at least have some kind of new shake-up. I dunno, some people enjoy the newer stuff, to me it's just all "okay", but nothing I really get pulled into like the Rider shows. I watched Boukenger from the beginning when I was in Japan, and it was pretty cool, but I don't feel the immediate desire to keep watching the rest of it any time soon like I do with Kabuto. But it really depends on the show, there's a couple Sentai that really did it for me. Like Bolt said, when it's good, it's very good.

Kamen Rider. And I mostly blame HJU for that. Before I found HJU, I only liked sentai from the toku world. Never really bothered to look for other stuff and never liked the toku I saw as a kid(metal heroes, a few older sentai and Ultraman), then when I came here, I read lots of debates and junk on Kamen Rider and decided to check them out again, 555 was my first new gen series, liked it at the time, not anymore. Then from there I went to Black and Agito and fell in love with the franchise. I've liked a lot more of the new gen rider series than the newer sentai stuff. Since Gao, I've only liked Abaranger and Boukenger, in the new gen of riders, the only series I don't like are Ryuki and 555. Rider shows just seem to hit the good marks a lot more often than sentai, but like Bolt said, when sentai's good, it's very good. As for the Abaranger thing, I'd say watch it. I really liked that series, it could do funny stuff really well and it could do dramatic stuff great, other than the obvious Abarekiller.

Have to go with Kamen Rider. I may have started with the Korean Super Sentai, but Kamen Rider is the best. Mainly it for being the story. But I like the fact that it's more "real" base than Super Sentai. I mean, who really owns a 100ft robot? :laugh:

That's only the recent stuff - mostly New Gen. I don't know WHY they insist on keeping the name "Power Rangers" in there when they didn't before in shows such as Flashman, Bioman, and Maskman. ::Shrugs:: At least the OP's and ED's are getting much better. I actually prefer the Korean OP to Aba, even though I liked Masaaki Endou's OP as well.
