I can see one of the rules of this film being that one of the main characters in the previous trilogy has to be killed. Not only is it commonplace in secondary horror film trilogies, but it also tells the audience that this is the new trilogy. If we keep having the oldies around the audience will simply keep thinking "man, I prefer the older cast". It'll probably happen anyway, but dangling the older character in the audiences faces will not really introduce the new trilogy.

That would still ruin it for me anyway. I might just end up wanting to give up my Scream trilogy box set if that were to happen.
