I'd probably call Shintoho (or even Teruo Ishii others) the "God of Tokusatsu Heroes." Ever heard of Super Giant (Starman in the US)? He's Japan's first live-action superhero (from 1957).

I think you knew that tokusatsu means special effects in Japanese. Godzilla was created in 1954(3 years before Super Giant).

Ultraman is the first tokusatsu series(in colour instead of black and white) that gained popular among Japanese and people in other Asian countries outside Japan since it was first aired in the year 1966.

Previous tokusatsu series didn't gained much attention in Japan. It was Ultraman that start the trend.

Without the popularity of Ultraman, there won't be Kamen Rider, Sentai, Metal Heroes, Kikaida, Megaloman and other series since there will less Japanese actually watching tokusatsu series.

Like August Ragone once stated:" It was Ultraman that kick the boom of tokusatsu in Japan."

I still agreed with his statement today.

"There can only be one "God Of Tokusatsu" and his name is Tsuburaya Eiji."

Shows like Gekiranger, Timeranger, Shinkenger, B-Fighter, B-F Kabuto, Super Rescue Series, Ultraman's Tiga, Dyna, Gaia, Mebius, Max, Nexus, The Star God Trilogy, and the list goes on and on.
