Russell Crowe as Robin Hood

I trust Ridley Scott (maybe), but this looks too "grimdark" to have really captured what the legend is all about. After all, it is Robin Hood and his Merry Men.

Yeah that's what's putting me off to. It's Robin Hood Begins or something. Not to say Robin of Sherwood didn't have some darkness as well, especially when put up against the Errol Flynn movie but I think they managed to balance it well enough. In that show Robin's band may not have been jovial fellows in caps but they were still a likable bunch that you wanted to root for.

I think there's still plenty of audience goodwill for the character but Men In Tights stands out so much if only because so many modern attempts at Robin Hood come off kinda bland (Costner movie, Patrick Bergin tv movie) or just trying too hard. (the syndicated show that tried to ride the Herc/Xena wave in the mid 90's or even the current BBC version).

Personally, I think Spaceballs was a better parody.

The latest BBC version wasn't doing too badly till the third series, when the writers gave up completely. I'd take Russell Crowe any day over a Robin Hood that hang-glides from the roof of Nottingham castle :eyebrow:

The trailer is ... strange. The first thirty seconds make it look like one of those weird art house movies, with all the carefully posed freeze-frame shots.

Ugggh....I LOATHE Russel Crowe....I just can't stand him.
This will be one movie I skip for sure.
