Rewatching Kuuga: What Kamen Rider has lost

Watched through 35. It was nice to get the full context of the complete and utter curb stomping Godai gave the Porcupine Grongi. I knew the scene was coming thanks to Shougo's sadly now pulled "Moment Of Toku Awesoemicity" video on YouTube.

That video showed me what happened, but I didn't understand why it was an awesome moment until now.

35 was great. The final arc begins now. It's amazing how they foreshadow Ultimate Form throughout the series though. It's really subtle, but now when you give it a rewatch, its amazing to see the hints.

I have finished Kuuga, and I.... have no idea how I feel about it. Seriously, the ending was just... weird. I don't know how else to describe it.

I can't help but feel that they wasted a rather cool looking suit for Number 0, for as much as it was featured. They had a lot of build-up, but I'm not so sure what we got was entirly worth the wait. Though I did like how he in his human form was always bathed in this angelic light. And the fact the final fight pitted the hero wearing all black against the villain wearing all white was a nice touch as well.

For me, the real strength of the show lied with the supporting cast. I just found them to be much more interesting than Godai, my favorite storyline is probably that of the scientist who was trying to be a good mother to her son, but had to keep on breaking promises she made to him because she was needed in stopping the Grongi.

All in all, it's not my favorite Rider show, but I don't regret watching it.

I found a torrent of english subbed Agito that I have downloading. It doesn't say who the subs are by, so hopefully I'm not wasting my time downloading HKs. Hopefully it isn't, but I'm still looking forward to watching that, because as I understand it was the last Toku written by Toshiki Inoue that the fandom at large actually cares for.

I think the ending was fine, it would only work for a show like Kuuga however. Glad you finished the series though, and discovering about the series for yourself instead of relying on others.

Agito is another fantastic series, I have feeling you may like it better than Kuuga however.

The ending fight might not had been some awesomely choreographed fight with nice CGIs, it was definitely something very different compared to other Rider series. But hey, it was pretty damn awesome, to see our hero's expression, blood and sweat and all that. The lack of bgm was also fitting too. It really id worked for Kuuga, and at the very least Ultimate and Number O's final forms weren't whored out like Emperor Kiva, that would had just made them feel a lot less special. Now maybe for Blade that might not had worked? Then again...HM....

^ The finale comes to mind. We see Godai entertaining a bunch of kids and putting on his usual smile, but when he leaves them he takes on a more saddened look. It's as though he went the distance to keep everyone else happy and safe, and now has to find his own happiness again.

Which is where the suit designs come to mind with Riders. The black "tear drop" on the eyes was to represent the sadness of a Kamen Rider. However most shows don't try to explore this as much nowadays. :/

I wished they would atleast show all of the capabilities of Ultimate form like using ultimate ver of the weapons same goes to Daguba duking it out but hey.............that would really cause the Earth to implode

i never know of those black tears thing. Thanks for enlighten me

I like Kuuga over all, but I hate the damn shaky cam. When people are walking and talking they have like some guy walking backwards filming them. It is really annoying.

Honestly, I'm fine with them not showing Kuuga summoning weapons and all that. I don't think the crew that worked on Kuuga was going for anything flashy at all for the finale fight.

I don't know, I actually felt that was a nice touch. Makes me feel like I'm part of the show instead of just watching a recording through a camera.

Hm, would Blade count?

True. But I think partially that stems from the fact that, as I recall, Riders felt the pain of being different, distinct, from humanity in a very real way. They were no longer human, and in many cases they fought alone and had hardships all their own. They were quite simply different, in a time where it wasn't quite emphasized so much that it's okay to be different. These days we all know that it's just fine to be different from the guy next to you. It doesn't mean it doesn't hurt any less at times, but that's a lesson most of us have learned. Maybe they've just moved on from trying to teach that lesson.

Not to say that it wouldn't be good to bring it back. I'd be interested in the old-style cyborg Rider these days.
