So 10 major Manga Publishers, including Kadokawa, Kodansha and Shogakukan have announced they are Boycotting the 2011 Tokyo International Anime Fair, meaning nothing from any of their catalogs will appear at the show.
Anime adapted from those series will also be absent unless they where made by a outside studio that is still attending.
They are Boycotting the TIAF over being targeted by the Tokyo governments new Anti-Sex Law's that would ban any Depiction of Sexual activities in any form in Media (the only Exclusions being Films and Novels). That mean's No sex (or other "lurid" things) in any Anime, Manga, Video Game or TV show.
The void left by the publishers is vast, and the TIAF may just cancel this years show. Apparently the only major publisher still on board is Disney.
The main backer of this Law, Tokyo's Govener Ishihara, a well known Anime/Manga hater and Xenophobe (who has been linked to some Isolationist movements), could not be happier with this news. In fact he wouldn't mind if the whole industry just died off, less filth and dirty Foreigners to worry about coming to his city.
The Law was originally only going to ban Loli (Depictions of Sex/Sex act's with a minor), but was re-worded to cover any kind of sex. The city council will vote on the Law this month, though reports say that the majority of assemblymen will not vote in favor of the re-worded law, it's scope is too broad.
