PR copy sentai counterpart or not

So I keep reading about people talking about this subject alot. I hear people say "I hate that Timeforce is a carbon copy of Timeranger" and "I want Goseiranger adabtion be spaced themed and not angel themed" so I wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

Me, I think each Power ranger season should for the most part stay true to it's sentai counterpart and be more like it and even at some points copy whole episodes and diologue from their sentai counterpart. Now I try to be open minded and there are some exceptions for me like RPM and Dino Thunder. Thats my 2 cents.

Power Rangers is not Sentai, and it shouldn't attempt to be it. If you want Sentai, you can watch Sentai. Very simple.

Agreed. Writers should do what works best, whether that is keep the theme, change it completely, or just change it a little bit here and there.

Which is why I never thought that having similar storylines were bad.

Some of my favorite ones are series that are similiar to the Sentai counterpart.

In my personal opinion, if done right I'm all for a Power Rangers season being a direct translation of Sentai. Granted, originality is always a plus but sometimes the original material just doesn't fit right with the overall theme or whatever.

I do agree with Underachiever, Power Rangers is not Sentai nor should it ever be. But if a season has the right theme to where it can still be Power Rangers but follow in some Sentai light...go for it! Just as long as the writing is good, and the characters/actors add some of their own spice to the source.

Too bad they mostly just re-use fight scenes from Sentai, which is why they try to pattern their writing on how the episodes were done originally.

I mean, look at Time Force and Wild Force back to back. Both seasons stayed very close to their sentai counterparts, with a couple of changes mainly in the main villiains). Time Force benefited from Timeranger's strong story and characters, while Wild Force... was just awkward in several respects.

Right on the money with all these comments.

Basically it depends on how well the writing fits with the motif of the Sentai.

I mean that was incredible writing in how they were able to take a Racing Motif from Go-Onger and put in into a post-apocalyptic story setting. And even if the writing of the show happens to be parallel with the original Sentai material, if the show executes it well.........then so be it.

But in summary, the plot of the source Sentai shouldn't be used as a crutch for the writing of the Power Rangers series that adapts it PERIOD
