Power Rangers Spinoffs Round 1: Syber Squad

Black Ranger RX

I don't have low self esteem.
Really Really Bored, so inspired by Forever Red I decided to make this little poll..

So what does everybody think of Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad? Me? I loved it at the time, and today.. I think Denkou Choujin Gridman is better, but I still like it. It was pretty corny in some areas, Malcolm Frink has to be one of the campest villians of all time (with his fake British accent), and Troy Slaten.. I guess you could consider him camp!! :P But still, it's not quite as shitty as Saban's Masked Rider!!

Also I was amused to know the main character was called "Sam", which is also my real name!!

Couldn't stand syber squad, it had a couple of cool moments here and there but damn was it campy as hell

lol, Rising Sun. Copycat, aren't you?

Ah, I didn't know that the show has existed until I found out few years ago and I haven't seen it before.

It really wasn't a PR spinoff though...

It had the same stuff in it that people might hate about Gridman, but not done as well. Of coarse this is said with hindsight.

I always liked it when it was first on, and I've only seen about 12 episodes of Gridman so I can't really compare. Usually the Gridman stuff was better and nothing could beat out the theme it had.

Amp Ere (Troy Slaten) was pretty cool. I remember Troy from Fox's "Parker Lewis Can't Lose"...and that "wacky" persona is evident in the Amp character. Too bad the character ended up leaving later in the series and replaced by the surfer dude, Lucky (Rembrant).

Considering DiC was no Saban, I looked through the campiness of the show (such as the limited number of sets, not including the Japanese footage of course).

Speaking of cheap, Kath Soucie playing Sam's unseen kid sister, Liz (Elizabeth). Soucie was a prominent VA doing characters voices for Disney, Nickelodeon, and later on...Cartoon Network. But overall, she did a decent job.

Tim Curry's role as Kilokhan...man...that was great...I wonder how DiC managed him into the cast.

SSSS suffers from the same thing that all "adapts" suffer from...recycling footage...LMAO...furthermore, there was a lot of chronogical issue that plague the series.

Overall...pretty decent.

PS: Hey FR...I suggest you do Masked Rider last because you know that thread will end up getting thesis sized paragraphs...LMAO

Oh boy. If I do that, he'll kill me.

Man... It's been years since I've seen this. I watched it occasionally but it didn't grab me like PR did back in the day.

Syber Squad not a PR Spinoff? Well it did have some differences to Power Rangers but I believe Syber Squad was originally gonna be called "Power Boy", and Saban took DIC to court because they believed "Power Boy" immitated Power Rangers, so they had to change the name..

Kill you? Naaaaaah.. Why would I kill an innocent man?

FR, that's up to you if you want to do the last one or any of the next ones, unless you want me to do it instead!! :)
