Old School PBS Kids Appreciation

Mr. Underachiever

Is not impressed right now...
After reading the "Do You Miss FOX Kids" and the fact that PBS is bringing back The Electric Company on January 23, I was reminded of how FUCKING AWESOME PBS Kids used to be. When I was in elementary school, I went to a year-round school for 4th and 5th grade, and on those long breaks, I would sit at home and watch PBS Kids for hours. (I lived in the Bay Area, and we had, like, five different PBS stations)

I can't even remember all the stuff I used to watch on there, like

Ghostwriter
Reading Rainbow
Arthur
Sesame Street
Wishbone
3-2-1 Contact (a little before my time, but they aired reruns)
Kratt's Kreatures
ZOOM
Shining Time Station
Magic School Bus
Bill Nye the Science Guy
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? (Not so much Where in Time, but that one was all right)

And a bunch of other shows I can't even remember. Nowadays, there isn't really anything in the PBS Kids bubble that I really watch anymore. I still watch Arthur on occasion, and Design Squad is a pretty good show, but still. And even the shows that WEREN'T under the PBS Kids bubble that I watched aren't on the air anymore (Standard Deviants TV, The Eyes of Nye).

So, yeah, PBS in general fell off. But this thread is about reminiscing on the good times. Because I know that everyone in here watched at least one show on PBS Kids at some point in their life.

I enjoyed Arthur and Magic School Bus (I even had a crush on Ms. Frizzle at one point), even though we didn't have PBS kids (I was still in the Philippines, but they air it on the now defunct local cable channel "I".)

No mention of Mister Rogers?

You should be ashamed.

I did remember that Mr. Roger's Neighborhood and Ghostwriter used to be air on PBS back in the day. Also, Where in the World Is Carmen Santiago? was also aired as well.

Oh man, I loved all of the shows that you listed. I actually went on a nostalgia binge last year and looked up a bunch of those shows on YouTube. I found out that I can still get down to the Carmen Sandiego theme and laugh at Sesame Street.
