Old Generation vs. New Generation

Japanfan4ever

Sometimes things get complicated.
This is a very difficult question for me and it may be for you as well. I'm gonna go with New Generation, only because I feel that some series that've come out of my favorite series (eg. Ultraman, KR) have been more innovative than compared to older ones (eg. the older SS series that looked and felt quite similar, one after another). This'll be a controversial one and one that's still kinda hard for me to fathom :disappoin

I'm actually starting this because I'm in so much conflict. When I look back at the first couple series' like V3, Ultraman, Ultraseven, Ultraman Jack, I see how classic they were. And they were just as innovative as SOME are these days. Only they were the first of their kind!

Each era has it good entries and it's bombs, But in the end, it's all good entertainment. The time it was made should only really matter if your favorite writers/actors/production team was active in that time.

But then that's a matter of personal taste, and not a outstanding achievement to a "Quality" standard for each era. Society changes, and so doesn't the entertainment that society watches. But whatever or not those changes are for the better, is up to the indivival to decide.

I know all that, that's a given. Not to start an argument but I came across wrong, I'd rather know what you prefer. Series adapted to each era it was created in, yet I'd still like to see what people prefer watching! Some people are totally for it all but watch new generation much more! :O_O:

And then there are the madly obsessed Kikaida fans that think anything past 1985 is malice :nono2:

Both have their strengths and weaknesses. For example, old school in general they put more emphasis in the land battle which lead to the greatest fights of all time. However, in sentai, the mecha fights had less meaning and if felt more like a ritual that a had to have a giant battle than part of the story. Also some shows at times were more episodic than a moving storyline. Also, and you can't really blame them for this but pre- 1983 shows didn't have great special effects and battle suits.

New Generation show have more flash to them. They are more appealing and sexy(as in attractive to viewers). They have more complex storylines in general than their precedesors and in sentai, although nowadays there are way too many mechas(Boukenger, Gaoranger), the mecha fights have more meaning to them and in fact, in some shows, they are major contribution the their spectable finales. However, ground fight as lost some meaning in the new generation. Its now who has the stronger weapons and power ups(i'm not really putting down power ups or weapons but nowadays there are too many of them and too overused(gekirangers i'm talking to you!)) rather than who has the stronger will to kill to opponent.

Damn, I can't even decide. I wish you added a third option that says, "Both." Me, I the old generation is the bomb diggity, but the new generation is even better with the new hottness in some parts.

What is this!?! It's like I've quantum leaped into a Japan Hero thread from three years ago!

Anyway. I vote for both. I like the shows that I like. I don't care if it's old or if it's new. I don't care if Hibiki or Den-O have "Rider Kicks" or whatever people are complaining about today. If a show has a good story, and is written well then it makes no difference.
