Okay....Kamen Rider v3 Question

....I found a set of DVDs with KR V3. Subtitled, and region code 1! After I got over my shock, I had to come here and ask:

Is this legal? 'Cause that would be SO cool if it was! And if it is...how? Did someone actually license Kamen Rider?

...how have you not heard of this?

Yeah, it's legal and for what it's got, it's pretty good. Pretty sure it's the first legal KR release in the states.

Because I've not checked out any Toku other than Sentai up to about four months ago. I AM sorry about that, since Kamen Rider is kickass.

Yeah, I've got those DVDs, and they're great. Fullscreen, best transfer as can be expected, flawless subs, cool packaging (especially if you're used to HK sets). Great set, a bit high priced, but extremely awesome. I'd owned the V3 HK's for years but having this JN set is like seeing it for the first time.

Edit: Forgot to answer this, sorry. "Generation Kikaida" refers to the people who grew up with shows liker Kamen Rider V3 and, mainly, Kikaida in the 70's. JN has distribution rights for Kikaida, Kikaida 01, V3, and a couple other shows like Kyodain. Hopefully they're release Zubat in the near future!

Bolt,
Thanks for the kind words about the V3 DVD box set from JN Productions; but, just to clarify, SPACE IRONMEN: KYODYNE (Uchu Tetsujin Kyodain) was never broadcast in Hawaii by KIKU-TV (namely, Joanne Ninomiya who programmed the station and went on to form JN Productions). Neither did they run VIGILANTE ZUBAT (Kaiketsu Zubatto).

In the 1970s, they did broadcast Tsuburaya Productions' EMERGENCY COMMAND: 10-4/10-10 (Kinkyu Shirei 10-4•10-10), Toho's RAINBOWMAN: WARRIOR OF PIETY (Ai-no Senshi Reinbouman), Toei's KIKAIDA (Jinzoningen Kikaida) and KIKAIDA 01 (Kikaida Zerowan), Toei's KAMEN RIDER V3 (Kamen Raida Buisuri), Toho's DIAMOND EYE: WARRIOR OF LIGHT (Hikari-no Senshi Daimondo Ai), Toei's INAZUMAN and INAZUMAN FLASH (Inazuman Furashu), Toei's GOOD LUCK!! ROBOCON (Ganbare!! Robokon), P-Productions' DENJIN ZABOGA, Toei's SECRET TASK FORCE: GORANGER (Himitsu Sentai Gorenja), Toei's AKUMAIZER 3 (Akumaizaa Suri) and Toei's BATTLE FEVER J (Batoru Fuiba Jei). They also screened some classic Anime show from the 1970s.

(A rival station, then NBC-affiliate, KHON-4, ran the original English dubbed version of ULTRA SEVEN [Urutora Sebun].)

Currently, JN Productions has licensed the rights to KIKAIDA, KIKAIDA 01 and KAMEN RIDER V3. Two of these are now out on DVD, and we're all hoping that they will also issue a DVD box set for KIKAIDA 01. I have heard that they are indeed interested in picking up more Old Skool Tokusatsu Hero titles from Toei, but it will depend on the sales of KAMEN RIDER V3... I'm guessing, if they do release 01, the next series they pick up will be INAZUMAN, since they have a great relationship with series star, Ban Daisuke (who was the star of KIKAIDA).

I would also like to see them release stuff like ZUBAT, but everything is goind to depend on the sales of KAMEN RIDER V3, and hopefully, KIKAIDA 01...

Here's another review of the KAMEN RIDER V3 R1 DVD box set:

Awww nuts! I could've sworn Zubat played in Hawaii.

Anyways people, buy these DVD's, and the Kikaida ones. They're expensive but you're never ever going find anything higher quality.

Just a quick note -- the KIKAIDA DVDs are not expensive; while, relatively, the V3 DVD box set can be perceived as such, but you're getting all 52 episodes, and it's not as expensive as some Anime series get here in the States, for the same amount of episodes. But, as Bolt said, if we support these releases from JNP, they will put out more stuff! :)

The Kikaida DVD's aren't expensive if you buy them by volume over long periods of time, but if you buy them all at once or take the sum of the individual volumes after you own them all, it's a pretty hefty amount. Not to say we shouldn't buy them though; hell, I own all the Kikaida and V3 DVD's and I don't regret the purchase at all. A lot of people wish around about how they wish tokusatsu would be subbed and made available in Region 1, but few seem to put their money where their mouth is now that it is. C'mon people, buy up!

I'm thinking about buying the Kamen Rider V3 Limited Edition box set.

Think theres any chance they'll eventually bring out other Rider series (IE.Kamen Rider original, and Kamen Rider 2) ?

After reading what you guys said, I really hope they bring Goranger, it would be great to have some subbed Sentai out stateside that is legal, and done properly.
