[J-ENT] Ninja Warrior (SASUKE) - Talkback

Japanfan4ever

Sometimes things get complicated.
Anybody else a fan of G4's awesome series Ninja Warrior? It's a long-running Japanese television show originally called SASUKE, that still runs today. It has some of the world's, but mostly Japan's, most athletic men competing in the world's most intense obstacle course on earth. If you don't know what I'm talking about, what's below may ring a bell and explains things for you.

And this man right here is Makoto Nagaon ("The World's Strongest Fisherman), the ultimate SASUKE celebrity. He's one of only three to make it to the top of Mount Midoriyama and won the whole damn thing. He's also notoriously the most consistent competitor in the show's 13-year history history :169: He's the man! He could probably even show Chuck Norris a thing or two. :O_O: That's right! I actually said that! All the way down is a vid of him going for gold.

Wipeout is still running though. They're doing more stuff this summer, apparently. Well at least we got some Americans and people that work for G4 to compete a couple months ago. Somebody's gotta hold it down for the U.S. of A!

But that show was a blatant rip-off! Japanese lawsuit according to Wikipedia:
Tokyo Broadcasting System, filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against ABC, charging that Wipeout is "a blatant copycat" of several of its classic Japanese competition game shows. Among the charges are that ABC bought search terms such as MXC (the Americanized comedy version of Takeshi's Castle) on Google to help drive traffic to the official Wipeout page, and that specific obstacles in Wipeout were knock-offs of challenges in those Japanese game shows. Wipeout creator and executive producer Matt Kunitz, who also executive produced NBC's Fear Factor, states Wipeout is "90% Fear Factor-inspired, 10% Japanese game show." Kunitz claimed, in the Los Angeles Times, that Wipeout was born from a desire to do a funny stunt series. He wanted to sell the show as Fear Factor meets America's Funniest Home Videos. The lawsuit will go forward in 2010.

Hell yes for Makoto Nagano!

My mother actually NEVER misses an episode to watch him lol. She's obsessed.

Great episode though was when BoukenRed tried and did so poorly lol

I'm sure it's a lot harder than it seems. :anime: But yeah, you mean the actor?! I didn't even know. And was it because of his starring on the show, or just something he did beforehand.

But on that previous subject, I think that the format for Wipeout is a little too close to SASUKE's.

The United States/Japan Ninja Warrrior's 2009 crossover is actually showing right now til 9:30. And Olivia Munn is reliving her failure from 2008.

I'm just wondering if they'll do anything for SASUKE 25, this March. There's usually two a year: one in March and a second in September. But this year they had one on January 1st, where Yuuji Urushihara became only the third champion! I wanna some Americans make it to the finals for once! ****!

God I can only imagine how much harder they would make the course if an American ever won it

I think it would be insulting to their egos, for some reason. The last two parts of SASUKE 22 are playing tonight at 8:00, so we'll see how far the Americans even made it then. I haven't seen it.

Last night SASUKE 23 (Ninja Warrior 23) was shown on G4 and lotsss of big surprises ensued from a lot of people, including Mr. Ninja Warrior himself. Makoto Nagano. What's pretty sad though is how the older favorites have been falling off and not doing so well against the new stars!

But next weekend's SASUKE is where the biggest surprise in years happens. But if you're not a big fan of SASUKE, like me, then you don't already know about it from following the original airing of it in Japan. So I won't ruin it for you, because you should watch it for yourself!
