Nightmare On Elm Street Remake Is Coming Alive

I'm a big fan of classic horror movies, and Nightmare is definitely one of my favorites. I enjoy it not just because it has a scary premise, but also because it's campy and fun to sit back and watch. Freddy is supposed to crack jokes, he's supposed play with his victims, he's supposed to have fun! If you take that away from him, then you take away what makes Freddy really stand out among slasher-killers.

Some works of art were not meant to be remade, and Nightmare on Elm Street is definitely one of them.

I liked the HalloweeN remake. For the most part, remakes do suck, but I just ignore the ones i know are going to suck (Prom night, When a Stranger Calls, etc).

I don't think they should remake Freddy. It's a classic that is built on the character of the main villain. More than Jason, Leatherface, Michael Myers, or any of the other major slashers, Freddy hinges on Robert Englund's performance. He's different, because he has PERSONALITY.

Jason, Leatherface, and Michael are just silent guys who run around and kill people. Just about anyone can put on the masks and take over. Freddy, however, is so completely and totally Robert Englund's character, that I cannot imagine them replacing him.

I would wager that I'm probably the biggest Nightmare on Elm Street fan on this board, more than likely. And to be honest, I'm excited by the idea of a remake.

I mean, even if the movie is pure ****, then the original series is still there for me to watch and continue to enjoy for as long as I live.

I will miss Robert Englund immensely because of what he brought to the character, making him my favorite horror villain of all time, bar none. However, this new Freddy won't be the same character, not only because there's a new actor, but because it's a different film altogether. So I would expect them to use him at least slightly differently from before. Which I'm intrigued by.

I don't think that because Freddy doesn't "crack jokes" that that neccesarily means he won't still enjoy toying with his victims. I still imagine a much darker, more horrific Freddy laughing with glee as he preys on the teenagers of Springwood in a twisted dream world. And that idea has my interest piqued.

As a fan of NOES, and just as a fan of horror movies in general, I'm keeping an open mind.

Man I'm a huge Freddy Krueger fan. Going to be very difficult for me to see anyone but Robert playing him. He made the character his own.
