Newer Sentai Turns Me Off

Ehhh...one piece mecha generally suck, though.

So you hate the following:
Battle Fever Robo
Daidenjin
Galaxy Robo
TurboRugger
Star Five
Jet Garuda
Dragon Caesar
Won Tiger
Tsubasamaru
Red Puncher
TackleBoy
Sirender
Delta Mega
Mega Winger
GoTaurus
Max Shuttle
Time Shadow
V-Rex
Tenkujin
DekaBike
SaiDaiOh
DaikiOh
GoseiUltimate

BlastBuggy isn't interesting. DekaWingRobo is.

What's so interesting about another five-piece combiner? Why does it have to be five pieces? Did the PatWings ever do anything on their own more than once? BlastBuggy is unique.

So, the team receives a power-up, but you think they should...stay in the same mecha? ...Why?

Why not?

Their power-up should be reflected in giant mode. If not in a Lights of Ginga mode, then in a new gattai robo. Just because a lot of toys makes things watered down...that doesn't mean we should be against toys entirely.

I'm not against toys entirely. I'm actually a mecha fan. I just don't like having so many mechas in one show, especially when there doesn't have to be. If Toei and Bandai want to promote toys, fine. But put some thought into it.

MagiLegend can go though. MagiKing looked like a wizard, which fit the theme wonderfully. MagiLegend...was just another Sentai robo. They should've made a cooler, "advanced" version of MagiKing. Keep the hat, give him a cloak.

That's my point. (Though I'm not much of a MagiKing fan either, especially not the toy.) They don't need more mechas just because they get a power-up. Do something innovative with what you already have.

Edit: Depends on what series you're talking about, Fantasy Leader. I mean, it could just be that Maskman wasn't for me...but with the exception of Go-Onger, every series I've seen in 2000 is superior to Maskman IMO.

Hurri, Deka, Magi, Bouken, Shinken, and Gosei are better than Maskman?

Did you watch CSCentral's subs? I think that might be a contributing factor, since I saw their work and it affected my enjoyment of the show (A show that I had heard good things about too).

But it shoots out fire from it's chest and sucks in enemies.

And fine, I was wrong. Replace Travellion with TimeShadow. I loved that thing.

Even how its wings stuck out horribly in robo mode? I'm surprised it could even stand with such awkward projections sticking out behind it. Would it have hurt to fold up the wings?

Can you just let me like TimeShadow please. I just want to like the mecha I like without being talked down to.

If it was a single piece robo with a giant gun mode and a robo mode, I might be more willing to agree. That would be less monotonous and be a nice throwback to earlier shows. But did the individual PatWings really do much on their own outside one or two episodes? In fact, do we ever really see the individual components do stuff? Even from a toy perspective, all they seem to be good for is combining.

The individual components weren't used much, but they still did stuff a few times, including an episode that couldn't have happened without the ability to separate into individual components. From a toy perspective, their uselessness happens every time with plane/ship-type small vehicles, so there's nothing particularly bad about them.

Couldn't you say then that DekaWingRobo was emulating Shaider's Babylos and Spielban's Gran Nazca, which themselves probably got the idea from anime?

You're getting a single aspect out of it and ignoring everything else. Yeah, turning into a gun wasn't created by the Dekawing, but it's a combining, flying, dual gun wielding robot which also turns into a gun. All while actually looking very good. And actually, I don't think turning into a gun came from any anime. Or, if it came from one, it must have been copying from some specific title I've never heard anything about, rather than a general trend (unlike the sword finishers in middle/late 70s and early 80s).

Going back to the design, the DekaWing Robo toy ended up looking too boxy, but we're talking about the show here. I don't see how the series would have been any better if all the aerial action sequences with the DekaWing Robo had been cut in favor of more ground based stock footage for the Super Dekaranger Robo or just Dekaranger Robo.

Was FlashTitan necessarily stronger? And there was at least one time when FlashKing had to bail it out.

Well, the Titan Flash and Titan Boy weren't necessarily better, but the Great Titan was shown to be better than anything else that they had. Yeah, it was kind of a block that couldn't move, but it usually didn't need to anyway, even after its introductory story. The FlashKing's sword broke when it hit the last monster, but the Great Titan just let it absorb its own energy until the monster blew up. The difference was pretty big.

BlastBuggy is unique.

Extra mecha used by the 6th Ranger that attaches to the main combiner. The DekaBike already did that in Dekaranger itself. If you're condemning the DekaWing solely based on such a general characteristic (It's a 5 piece combiner!) then I don't see how it's any better.
