Newer Sentai Turns Me Off

there's always been shitty Sentai Seasons. It seems that there can't be no more then four years with straight good season when a shitter has to come along. For every Changeman, Jetman, Dairanger and so on, we get a stupid one (Go-onger, Zyuranger, Goggle V) and Bland one (Fiveman, Gaoranger, Goggle V), one which aimed too high and didn't hit the mark (Maskman, Ohranger, Goggle V) or a mixed bag of all of the above (Goggle V)

There have been stretches of repeating bad sentai before (denji to Goggle V), but we end up getting gems afterwards. I think alot of it has to do with the taste and trends of the times and that reflex on the person viewing it. Why do you think 90% of the people here enjoy shows, music, movies, video games, anime, whatever-floats-your-boat from the 90's or 80's?

P.S. Can ya tell I didn't enjoy Goggle V?

I'm definitely sure your favorite one is Goggle V. I mean, obviously

(Not having seen Zyuranger here) It was stupid? How?

I don't get where you're coming from here. What's ridiculous? It's less ridiculous than something like Time Shadow, GaoIcarus or KillerOh.

...It's a martial arts truck robot. In Transformers that would be awesome, but not in Sentai.

That can work for the arsenal. But I still don't think it's really necessary for the mecha. Sometimes, ok. But not always.

I say Sentai should follow the Jetman example and have a three robo maximum. That's all.

Main robot. Sixth ranger's robot. Upgrade robot?

Yeah.... because Aura Power was what they used to fight. Of course they're going to use it. That should be obvious. Are you complaining that Gekiranger's heroes and villains constantly used Geki and Rin Wazas in battle, some of which were clearly silly?

Okay, first? You need to know I've got no great love for Gekiranger. It was a good show, but others are much better. But...that's not what I mean. The theme for both series are martial arts, but...this is how the Maskman beat THEIR final villain....

Theme music starts playing, the show's over and everything--we're supposed to get an amazing showdown, complete with a brilliant fight scene. Instead? Zeba walks through all their attacks, and Takeru goes "Screw it...Meditation!"

Cue Rainbow ki blast, Zeba goes down.

Gekiranger's final fight?

Long goes up against the main three Gekiranger. He's supposed to be more powerful, but they use all their strength, synching their attacks perfectly to overwhelm him. One of the most well-choreographed fight scenes pre-Goseiger I've ever seen.

Which feels like a martial arts show.

Case by case may have worked for a concept like Deka, not it made no sense in Bouken. Deka's police setting makes sense for a loosely connected episodic pace. (Though given the way the Alienizer was handled, as far as I understand it, a more structured villain organization may have been more sensible.)

The Boukenger went on episodic adventures. They weren't chasing anything specific. Fighting the Negative Syndicate wasn't even their primary job--obtaining the Precious was.

I still say you should give the show a examination. It really seems like you've developed some kind of weird hatred for this show.

Nah, I just don't like it.

Actually, the first martial arts Super Robot was a transforming truck in a Toei series! Toushou Daimos, produced by Toei Animation as the final third of the Romantic Trilogy. Ran from April 78 to January 79, usually considered one of the final "Golden Age" Super Robots.

Good-quality Daimos fights are... well, pretty much not on YouTube at all, but here's Daimos using kung-fu everywhere in SRWMX for the PS2. I will note that in the SRW games Daimos is never depicted turning into a truck. That was typically something Daimos did only during his "arrival" stock footage or when there was a plot point about needing to drive Daimos somewhere.

I don't know how someone could complain about the effects used for Maskman's aura, yet like Dairanger's Kiryoku-Fart-Smoke-Bomb. And how many times did Dai cheat out on fights by having characters turn into black Crayola squiggles?

Maskman High School football rules!

It took me two months and three separate viewings of the first episode before I even wanted to watch more of Goseiger, but now I can't wait until the next episode is out.

(Not having seen Zyuranger here) It was stupid? How?

The show had such dark themes to it yet such a cheery happy demeanor to most of it that it felt like I was being mentally juggled. Burai and Bandoras back-stories were extremely tragic and sad but with the overall tone and way of going about everything it all just seemed so out of place. You really can't go from the death of a members brother, who originally tried to kill him, and then have an episode where swallowing pink balls makes you fall in love with a lamp post. I went into it expecting it to me mostly cheery and fun and then elements come in that are so weirdly played that they just don't seem to belong.

Magiranger did this but it had a better balance and it was set up from the beginning of the series that it was going to be a mix of light hearted and dark drama and both played well (might be why I loved it so much.). With Zyuranger it just fealt out of place. Finding out Bandoras past made me pretty damn mad and irritated. Not that it was necessarily bad, but it just seemed so fricken sudden and out of tune with the build-up that it pissed me off!

OH! And the rampant overuse of the Kennys too.

One piece mecha suck? Who just said SaiDaiOh and Travellion and V-Rex suck?

Add Galaxy Mega, Delta Mega, and every other 1 piece mecha to the list too!!! yay!!!!.

As said before, Timeranger to Gekiranger (Maybe Shinkenger) were still very good shows, But some i liked more than others i guess its really the characters that turn me off not the show itself.

I think what Forever Knight means is that Post-Timeranger Sentai aren't as good as the Changeman-Timeranger Era. But 2000s Sentai still aren't bad. Just not as good as the older seasons. But are still passable and enjoyable to watch. That's how I see it.

This.

Can you just let me like TimeShadow please. I just want to like the mecha I like without being talked down to.

Because the post basically went

"I like TimeShadow"
"Here's the reasons why you shouldn't and why this flaw I have with TimeShadow proves it's lame."
":redface2:"

It's Black Fang. He hates everything. I think it's because he hates himself.

Well said. Besides, if they get more money from it, why wouldn't Bandai make them?

Exacally.

Because what exactly are you expecting me to say to that? Am I supposed to just stop liking TimeShadow because you think it's lame?

lol.

You like TimeShadow and that's it. You don't need to justify anything to this guy. Did you even ASK for his opinion on TimeShadow after stating you like it?...

You are. It's just that other people are allowed to think you're a conceited jackass for doing so.

I sometimes wonder if Black Fang sits infront of the tv watching these shows and takes notes on everything he hates or if he yells at the tv screen. Anyone take a guess?.

...It's a martial arts truck robot. In Transformers that would be awesome, but not in Sentai.

Why not in Sentai? It's exacally what we are used to in Sentai.
