Multiculturalism in Canada

So I went infront of my house for a smoke and a beer and I saw 4 youngsters, maybe in grade 7 or so and 1 was Indian, 1 was Asian, 1 was Black, and 1 was white.

This put a smile on my face and made me appreciate the country I live in and how all of our cultures are welcomed.

No matter what **** is talked about Canada this is indeed an amazing country. The Best of the best of the best.

I love Canada for that reason. No one ever tells you you have to be white or you have to speak English.

I was surprised to read one of my friend's livejournal's today...he's American. He said, " I fucking hate people who can't speak English. You're in America, learn the language!"

I have NEVER said to myself, " ****, I hate it when they don't speak English!" I have NEVER EVER thought that.

In Canada, you can be who you are, and Canadian, all at once. I love it.

We Canadians might not be the most exhuberant patriots around...but we sure do love our country

I do curse the weather though. Saturday was just...augh... like 37 C with humidty (98 F!!!). God damn it...

Moral of the story, no country is perfect in every way. Just because there are some morons who say certain idiotic things, doesn't mean everyone is that way. And Honestly it's dumb to think that way. I mean you stated "In Canada, you can be who you are, and Canadian" I very much doubt every single person in Canada thinks as you do. Just as I doubt very much so that every single person in America thinks as your friend does.

You made certain points and I made counter points. You stated something a friend of yours said in America and I had to respond to that. People like that guy don't represent the entire country. Your post made it seem as though you were trying to say it was. Your statements also make it clear that you think all Americans think everyone here has to be white and speak English. If that wasn't your intent, my apologies. But try reading your post again, as that is how it sounds. By the way thanks for the insult rather than anything else.

I KNOW not all Americans think like that. My boyfriend is American, and he doesn't think anything like that.

But the majority of America DOES think like that, and if they don't then America is being represented to other counties wrong. To Canadians most Americans are a joke. They're selfish, indulgent and stupid.

Of course I'm sure that there are some Canadians who are like that, but I'm not just pulling things out of my ass here.

Anyways, I'd still rather live in Canada...even though if all goes well when I'm done college in two years and Faiz and I are still together, I'll be making a sacrifice and moving to Seattle...

Heh.. When you say Americans are a joke, selfish and indulgent in that broad a term.. Then yeah IMO you are pulling things out of your ass. To make it sound as though everyone from a country is that way, and you see it that way you come off as some what of a bigot. I am not sure if you mean to sound that way, but that's how it is coming off.

You speak as though you know what the majority of America thinks. Have you taken polls? Have you gone house to house asking? I mean that would be like me saying I know everything I need to know about Canada from watching South Park.
