This brings a good point. What Sentai has set the standard? It seems as though the majority of the Sentai watchers basically watch for a few years as kids and that's it and are replaced by newer kids to the point where everybody under the age of like 30 in Japan had watched a Sentai show at some point in their life. (Similar to PR here, till Disney took over)
I mean how do they know they had a good Sentai? Seems as if its been "K here's 50 eps, ratings were good enough, merchandise sold well, the suits are pleased, ok keep it rolling onto the next season" for years now. I know they were considering pulling the plug after Ohranger if Carranger didn't do better which it did. But all Sentai seems to be is just good enough for this year and they move on. What do they hold the standard to? I mean Star Trek is a similar long running series and Next Generation is pretty much agreed to be the best of the best that every show has to be compared to. What's Sentai's equivalent?
