Mentos+Diet Soda= !!!!

I've seen this done on Attack of the Show! before, but here's the thing.

I've put Mentos AND coke in my mouth, and I ate it like nothing. Hmm...

Okay, just now when I was walking home from work, I stumbled in a newsagents, and found some Mentos (YATTAAA!!). So I brought it, took it home, then I got some Cola from the fridge, poured some Cola into a glass container, then dropped a Mentos into it, and...

*DRUMS ROLL*

..nothing happened. :P

Hmm, maybe it was the Cola, which has been in the fridge for quite a while and somehow lost it's fizz.

Oh well!!

*scoffs the rest of the Mentos in his gob*

Yeah, the trick doesn't work if the soda is flat, or isn't fizzy. So you'll have to get a very fresh bottle of soda.

If any of you want to know all the ins and outs of the Mentos & Cola then you should watch the latest episode of "Mythbusters." They were able to determine just what makes the reaction work the way it does.

Remember, it has to be a Diet Soda due to the Aspartame & Caffine that helps with the quick carbonation. It also has to be room temperature so that the Carbon Dioxide is at its highest agitated state.

The Mentos have to be the normal white ones. Those have small pits & craters in the outer layer that helps in the nucleation as well as forcing the CO2 to want to leave in a quick hurry.

Watch the show and you'll know it all. Of course you can also find out that by making some soapy water you can then release some gaseous methane in the soapy water. You'll get the soap bubbles to adhere better, they'll rise REALLY high (like around 3-4 meters) while still holding the shape of the vessel, & by holding a flame to it you can get it do a flashburn that'll look really cool.
