MASKED for Kamen and why do some fans get offended.

I have no cares one way or the other. Like others have said, I am just use to saying the Japanese word Kamen. It just rolls off the tounge better, but I actually pronounce it correctly. I don't pronounce it Common Rider like a certain adaption we are familiar with does.

You should hear Keith say it in the podcasts........it's a complete lulz fest sometimes

Do some fans get offended by the use of the name MASKED RIDERs for Kamen Rider?

I know there some people like Steve Wang who hates the english names and some fans even said that calling Kamen Rider as Masked Rider indicate that your not a real fan of Kamen Rider. Kamen and Masked are same thing and Bandai used MASKED for its english name and yets some fans disagree maybe this so-called fans don't know that Kamen means Masked. But I pronounced Kamen Rider as Kamen Raidā and I just can't stand people pronouncing it as Common Rider like in KR Dragon Knight which sound silly as Steve said he dislike descriptive names llike Masked, name the Dragon Knight is also a descriptive name too. As far as I know most fans hated using Maksed for Kamen it was becuase of Saban's Masked Rider which I don't count it as a real Masked Rider. What do you guys think about this naming issue? I am fine with both names and in the end is the same thing.

Two words:

FOR EDENOI

As someone who has never seen Saban's "Masked Rider", I have to ask:

1. Was it really THAT bad?

2. How many people who refuse to say "Masked Rider" because of that series have actually watched it?

Who the hell cares? I mean IMO anyone that has a problem with people calling KAMEN rider as MASKED rider need to just be quiet. Masked is the English word for Kamen, or at least one translation. Some Rider shows even has MASKED in the title screen. Why would anyone have a problem with this.... :redface2:

1. Was it really THAT bad?

Yes, it was amazingly terrible. Not even so much as an adaptation, the US-made footage is just really shoddy and the original plotline is laughable. Masked Rider is actually as bad as most people assume Power Rangers is, I'll put it that way.

Big Bad Beetleborgs was slightly worse, though.

Personally I think the Kamen/Masked thing is just good old-fashioned fan wankery. People who have an emotional need to feel "close" to the show's source will refuse to use translated terms, even when the translations are obvious and supported by official sources.

I saw it when I was a kid and to me it was nothing different. It was a super hero show. It was kinda weird tough, since the Armor was based on an insect. Of course, it changed when I grew up. There's definitely a difference in the story and the portrayal of the characters. As far as the name of the show, you'll get some resistance from purists (I don't mean that in a mean way). I'm just saying, that because of how the show was remade in the US. It's basically hard to mesh them together, hence the distinction of "Kamen Rider" versus "Masked Rider."

Was I able to contribute to the original question of the thread? Thanks.

Since they're the same word in two languages, I don't care especially if either is used by Toei/Bandai. Goes along the same line as using "henshin" instead of just "transform" to make it sound cool.

Actually, transform rather sounds funny... Notice how they can't split it into two syllables, and that's one of the things that made Black awesome, but not in Accel's case, it was lame...

No problem with calling it Kamen or Masked... Now calling Sentai as Power Rangers, now that's wrong...

Well, Power Rangers is not a direct translation of Sentai. It's more for marketing purposes. It's easier to shop "Power Rangers" to kids here in the US/Canada. Maybe, instead of Transform, they can use "change form" instead?

i don't like the sound of that id rather they said something else also henshin sounds cool but well just have to see what they bring out in the next one if there is one

on the main topic i find kamen rider a better sounding name but i have no problem with people calling it masked rider thats just what they want to call it.
