[Comic] Marvel Talk Up Thread

Glad to see that wretched Superior Spider-Man story arc is coming to an end, even if Otto sacricficing himself robbed Peter of a real hard-fought victory and made Octavius look more the hero, which, after a year of this garbage, shouldnt have been permitted.

Alas, Slott, hack supremo, is still on the book, and he'll probably continue to make Peter and every member of the supporting cast a complete juvenile bonehead for years to come just as he did with Superior to keep the story going.

I'm not picking Spider-Verse up either because going by Marvel's track record it'll be full of angst, bad comedy writing, and it'll probably have a high body count to boot, I'd hate to see Mayday Parker or her father, MC2 Peter killed off, the latter represents the "silver age" version of the character with all of the original history (up to about the 90s) intact, plus he actually has a happy ending, it'd be a bit like killing the golden age Superman in Infinite Crisis despite him being happy at the end of the first Crisis.

Hopefully the newspaper strip Peter, the one Stan Lee writes, gets involved in this. He's also still happily married, and the strip's been getting some attention lately with it's present storylines. (Jonah in Iron Man armor is just the kind of awesome I could do with this in the regular books)

I love the daily strip. Is it corny? Without a doubt, but it has the most likeable versions of Peter and MJ presently in the medium and it's just a load of fun.

A new Spider-Man 2099 series is to be coming out.

Yeah I heard that, and it's written by Peter David too, so that should be put people at ease.

Tom DeFalco, Spider-Girl's creator, on the other hand has said he "wasnt invited" to participate in Spider-Verse...but given Peter David lied about not working on a 2099 project until this very announcement, I've a feeling DeFalco is likewise being deceptive and we will see him on a Spider-Girl mini sometime this fall.

Well I hope we get all the Spider-Men, that includes the likes of Toei Spider-Man and (in my opinion the underrated) Spider-Man Unlimited Spider-Man. Though honestly I don't get Marvel at all with how they treat Spider-Man, they go on and on how Peter being married goes against the spirit of the character. But it is fine to having him involved in a multi-universal storyline with a mystic villain as the central threat.

And are we really going to bring back up The Other? The only good thing to come out of that were the Mike Wieringo variant covers.

Yost and his Scarlet Spider series made good use of the Other as a story point but yeah that is about it. Much like 95% of EVERY major Spider-man arc since 2000s the Other was pretty much forgettable and a clear cut misfire.

Superior Spider-Man ended today. I'm really going to miss that book, it was the best one in Marvel's line up for this pass year.

So C2E2 was this weekend and we have some news.

First is Deadpool Vs. X-Force which is a prequel to New Mutants #98 chronicling Wade's first run in with the New Mutants/pre-X-Force. Honestly this sounds like a title that should have come out in 1996 or 2011. My one question is if they are going to shoehorn in some half-assed excuse to explain his original characterization. Written by Duane Swierczynski and drawn by Pepe Larraz.

Next we have the Marvel 100th Anniversary editions which I don't get why these exist. The premise is that these are issues of the comics from the year 2061, 100 years after Marvel Comics first published a book. It's an interesting idea, a bit of a mash-up of Marvel Knights 2099 and Marvels Comics (a series of one-shots of comic books "published" in the Marvel Universe). The best anyone can figure is this is Marvel's attempt to "cash-in" on DC's Five Years Later. Identity Disk 2.0.

And to round this up here's some shocking revelations coming out of Original Sin. First it seems that Peter Parker wasn't the only one bitten by that dar radioactive spider. It seems that a girl was also bitten so this Summer Spider-Man will have to face Silk.

Also Angela is Loki and Thor's sister and them not knowing about her has to do with the mysterious Tenth Realm. I actually like this one though. Just comes out of nowhere but makes just enough sense. Hey great chance to revive Journey into Mystery, maybe she can team up with Sif. Now I wonder if Angela will be Thor 3.

Marvel also announced that the long rumored death of Wolverine is really coming. Being a fan of Wolverine and actually liking (quite a lot) the Prof. Logan persona, I'm a bit disheartened by this.

On the other hand, I'm really excited about Dan Slott's upcoming Spider Man story line about "the other Spider Man" (or Woman).

He'll be back in about six months, most likely.

At the moment, I'm really enjoying Thunderbolts. It's fun, it's light-hearted, it's got three of my favourite characters (Deadpool, Agent Venom, and Electra) in it. I feel like that kind of whimsical light-heartedness is pointedly absent from a lot of Marvel's ongoings at the moment.
