Peter however, continues his web-swinging career, only now he has the additional headache of looking after an infant baby girl. The events of "The Gathering of Five" occur two years after this series

So long as Quesada keeps threatning it with cancelation, he knows sales skyrocket whenever he does that. The TPBs sales are pretty good, so it's safe...though I cant tell when the next few digiests are coming out

It's also not a major priority for them, it's usually the last thing they give extra numbers too once they go through the top-tier titles, I wouldnt worry too much

I just really dislike that they had to use OMG MAJICK to split MJ and Peter up. I wouldn't have minded if there was a decent, valid reason, but FAMILY VALUES! get in the way of good story-telling.

Personally I like Felicia and Peter a lot better. Mary Jane is a kinda one dimensional character.

Let's face it, people like the idea of a nice guy getting the girl. People get tired of watching writers take a **** on Spidey's life all the time.

I personally need to see less moping and more snarky come backs from our favorite wall crawling smartass.

Plus, let's face it, the exchanges between, Peter, Mary Jane, Aunt May... and Tony were hillarious. Peter's better when he's cracking jokes and no one is abusing him

It's kind of a balance. I mean yeah, Peter's life can be pretty rough sometimes but the problem with modern writers really locking so hard onto the "Charlie Brown and the football" thing with him is that if everything sucks for him all the time 24/7 and is all darkness and angst then he stops really being everyman and just becomes emoman.

I think Spidey's humor is also an very important element. One that I sorely missed with his film version. With the mask Spidey can say all the things he wishes he could say as Peter Parker not to mention that it aids him in a fight because he frustrates the hell out of his opponent which throws them off their game. They lose focus and make mistakes. Plus, it's fun.

I like Peter as a young single guy but I don't really approve of the route they have taken to get back to that. I think there are many other options and even ones that could have been a bit more respectful of the marriage and it's fans and at the very least given some sense of closure. Because it's been in place long enough that we're well past the point where just writing out with magic or any other comicbook fu really works at all. This isn't something that happened last month or a hold over from the latest bloated crossover clusterf**k event.

But I guess they did that because there was other stuff they wanted to change to in which case maybe Marvel should have just had to stones to end the original continuity and reboot. Or close it with something that lays the groundwork for Spider-Girl and then people could venture to that book to see the continuation of Peter and MJ via their interactions with their child while Spidey started anew in the Amazing title. Basically let the classic title have the classic ( or a version of the classic) status but people could still see the happy couple as well.

Not sure if any of my suggestions would neccessarily be less controversial but I think at least it would be less of a slap in the face. I know nobody likes the D word when it comes to the marriage but I think Erik Larsen made an interesting point when he said that it wouldn't even have to be a painful affair with lawyers and drama. Not to say I agree with Erik on everything but it was an interesting position. If ya like, check it out here:
