Main Cast "Mug shots" for the Last Airbender

*facedesk*

I am so scared of this movie.

WHY couldn't M. Night Shamwow have cast at least people who look Inuit, Japanese, Chinese and...well...whatever the Airbenders were?

Instead, he's casting all white and all Asian Indian.

Way to be racist, Shamwow.

C'mon, this isn't new in the realm of Animation transfusion to the live action movie realm. Just Look at Goku and Kyo. Both White, were clearly asian. C'mon Kyo was leader of Team Japan @_@

Because then Americans wouldn't go see it. Sad truth.

I'm satisfied with this cast, mainly Aang though. I have high hopes for this young guy.

I'm not happy that Sokka and Katara are white but they could have at least casted people that don't look so plain and lame.

Actually the entire fire nation is pretty much India now. I don't mind the white was casting even though it is peculiar. Well the whole movie has a western feel to it, and I'm not referring to the casting. I think the casting on Aang and Sokka's part was pretty decent. Jackson Rathbone is a fairly new actor thats familiar with the show and frankly most of his roles have been pretty much the same or similar archetype as Sokka.

With Sokka and Katara not being Inuit its somewhat acceptable I guess since their race isn't a strong emphasis thats embedded into their character, its not like "THIS PERSON IS INUIT HIS CHARACTER WILL BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IF HE'S NOT INUIT". Although if the entire movie trilogy featured multiple nations of primarily white casting all against an Indian fire nation, it doesn't really apply since that pretty much took one of the key elements of Avatar and threw it out the window. Although Asian culture is a key element in what made Avatar well Avatar its not the core element nor the deciding element though. The series would have been just as good if it was set in a western setting.

Kyo I'll give you since that was just plain odd on Hong Kong's part to do a white wash casting like that. But Goku, haha no. Seriously fans complaining about Goku being white is just stupid and clearly they don't remember the show if they claim Goku is Asian. Since they clearly state Goku isn't from Asia, he's a saiyan. And plus how there were early concepts that Saiyans were a parody on the Japanese view of Americans (look at their personalities). Pretty much the sole argument for Goku being remotely Asian is that his name is of Asian descent and he's in a Japanese Anime, which for some reason people believe it can only have Japanese characters.

But the Movie is more a mix of the DB Mythos than the DBZ mythos in which is more based off Journey to the West, a Chinese folklore that is old as hell. About the Monkey king and so on. So its not that far fetched.

Of course Dragonball was based on Journey to the West but DBE sure as hell wasn't (especially with its very loose resemblance to the Dragonball or DBZ). Sure back in Dragonball Son Goku could have been set to be of Japanese descent or whatever but as soon as Z came out well that concept was thrown out. DBE was still a bad movie and Justin Chatwin was just general bad casting (I mean he hated the screenplay after all), but what I'm saying here is Goku isn't Asian, since they state in the show that Goku is specifically not Asian, and its stupid to use DBE as an example of white wash casting or yellow facing. Thats all.

Back on topic, fun fact technically Sokka in this movie is still part Asian since Jackson Rathbone is part Singaporean.

It's either lighting, or the environment/location they're in that makes their skin look pale. Besides, these pictures look more to me like a "random" shot taken for production-related business. It's probably just to see how the characters/actors look in their respective uniforms.
