Not feeling the Katara at all.

The Aang and Zuko are spot on, and Sokka doesn't bother me, as long as he's got the personality down.

Maybe she has the Katara mothering personality down, but I'm not feeling it.

The real fail is the crazy amount of whining in that LJ post. I guess they're just now understanding what Hollywood does to cartoon IPs?

Hmmm... can't really judge on anything since these aren't actual full-on, proper promotional shots but rather, as mentioned earlier, small shots likely just to show a quick teaser of the cast in costume in some fashion. That and looks are mainly superficial, the question really should be if they can pull the characters' personalities off in their acting, which we likely won't know until the movie is released.

Personally, I'm kind-of on the fence about the whole "racebending" issue. I can see some points, but some people are taking it way too far. To me, calling all those involved in the movie "racists" or creating an all-out boycott on the movie, that is as of yet unreleased, with nothing but cast notes, a few behind the scenes pictures and a single teaser to go on, concerning this single issue, is a little overboard. You'd think people would be more concerned with how the plot will be handled (still don't have much to debate on that either).

What's worse is that some of the diehards are beginning to tangle other, unrelated people into the issue. Even Sifu Kisu (the guy who was involved in pre-production to help the animators get ideas for fighting styles for bending) is getting his opinion made for him by some of the more rabid fans, see here.

Can't we all just wait until something with actual substance involving the movie is released rather than complain and argue everytime something with "The Last Airbender" in the title is mentioned?

NinjaJack from Toonzone has the best opinion I've seen on the issue.

(note: when he says "pictures" he means that in the thread we were discussing this, someone posted pictures of the actual cartoons showing how no single culture seemed to ever be specified and how diverse it was)

As a film buff I cannot ignore this thread much longer. So here goes my two cents.

I didn't know there were literally THAT many people variations in the people of the four nations. Your pictures kind of blow the whole protest thing out of the water, especially is the show's creators are already working this project.

As a black man I completely understand typecasting and such but the actors who get cast in the roles just better be the best man or woman for the job. Look at Oscar nom Michael Clark Duncan Kingpin in Daredevil. Then look at Oscar winner Halle Berry in Catwoman. In both cases they changed the race of a character, but only one came out actually emulating the original source material correctly.

You, and I mean the ones most vocal about this protest business, have to get a few things straight.

-The casties are people, sirs and ma`ams. They deserve the upmost respect as individuals. If your efforts are to attract the studios you will no doubt attract that casties too. They'll read posts in this forum and others where they are not being judges on their acting ability, but by their race.

Thats right, I'm saying what you think I'm saying. This whole process has the pontential to become as racist and mean spirited as the people you're claiming the producers to be are.

I can understand how you want something to be accurate to the source material, I watched Masters Of The Universe dozens of times and I THINK I get it. But watch it, please for the sake that some of these cast members are young kids not even 18 out and about for the first time in their lives.

Let me ask the protesters something. What did you think of Denzel Washington playing Julius Caesar?
I believe you guys are free to protest the things you want to protest in, but keep in mind if you are spewing stuff because the person is white who came out on top then I think you have to evalute if the person can act then leave the rest to the makeup artist, writers and directors.

Up to this point, besides debated casting choices , the movie is breathtakingly accurate in the placing, relationships, concepts and the protagonistic qualities. The casting is done and all I'm seeing is "White people=bad" over here and this Ninja doesn't like it.

As for the casting of the others, I've already said Zuko doesn't look too shabby and Aang looks cosplay-ish but alright. Katara, I'm not seeing too much but the acting is what I mainly care about. Sokka's...different but like Aang, he's just alright.

It's either lighting, or the environment/location they're in that makes their skin look pale. Besides, these pictures look more to me like a "random" shot taken for production-related business. It's probably just to see how the characters/actors look in their respective uniforms.
