Mahou Sentai MagiRanger ~Magical Talk Stage~(thoughts and opinions)

Magi one of my favorites too, great music, cast, suits and mecha.
I really like Family Sentai's myself also.

Well, I'm a few episodes past MagiShine's debut, and I've gotta say that he's well portrayed. he doesn't steal the spotlight from the Ozu siblings, nor is he overplayed. He comes off as relaxed, aloof, and a pretty nice guy on his down time, but a very serious teacher who honestly cares for his students, and he seems to strike a balance in his teaching methods, specifically giving them lessons and instruction, but also giving them room to use his words to figure things out for themselves, so he so far makes for a good mentor character.

Additionally, I like the way he fights as MagiShine, it's a very subtle and in-control sort of fighting style that can be flashy thanks to his spells and MagiLamp Buster, but not showoff-ish, and Travelion is quite the powerhouse that can really pack a pucnh in comparison to the lithe MagiKing who mostly fights using swordplay and spells. It also helps that I really like the desings used for the things centered around MagiShine(meaning his changer, suit, weapon, and mecha)

Smoky also makes a nice foil to him. Greedy and selfish, but not in a way that's despicable. He's definitely get an attitude, and is quite the cheeky cat from what I've seen

He'll probably go down as one of my favorite sixth rangers by series end, because he defintely comes off as well-handled

MagiShine is very VERY well handled in my opinion, and in the latter half of the series they take his character in a rather interesting direction, especially by the standerds of a super sentai show.

And I know I'm repeating myself, but it's really important that you watch the movie between episodes 25 and 26.

honestly, I just want to finish the series before I watch the movie

I mean, I already know that Unigolon and SaintKaiser first appear in the movie, and later in the TV series, so I'll be just fine

The thing of it is, is that the movie does tie into the series continuity, and if you don't watch it, there are going to be plot points later on that are going to look like they came out of nowhere and you don't know what anyone's talking about.

if you're talking about Unigolon, I already know about him

One thing I don't remember being explained, and I didn't like the series enough to re-watch for an answer: IIRC, in episode 1 Miyuki has to explain that the kids' father was really a Heavenly Saint, rather than whatever story she'd made up before. But according to Toei, Kai is 17 years old at the start and Makito is 24. So if Makito was already seven years old when Kai was born ... shouldn't he remember his father?
