Kamen Rider Wizard, Ep 1 - "The Wizard Uses Rings"

What I like about the fights so far is that they're quicker than Fourze's. Switching the rings doesn't take as much time. My only problem is switching the hand when he wants to use the hand in the same direction twice.

23 mins. in and already pushing out those sausages.

 I don't get it. I really don't. What about Kamen Rider/Sentai makes Toei go "People really want to buy weiners with the faces of these characters!"

Thoughts: (in handy list format)

[HIDE]The good:
- Monster designs!
- Phoenix and Medusa!
- The bike
- All the action scenes
- Love the whole concept of his travelling through the gate to defeat the monsters of the week.
- The whole look of the show is very stylish
- Great Rider Kick
- Dragon!
- Rinko and Koyomi are OK, though they didn't register with me much since the episode was mostly about Haruto.
- Bustin' down the wall like Kool-Aid Man

The bad:
- Haruto. Of course everyone's going to love him because he's so "badass" and doesn't bother with stupid little things like kindness or friendship. But he's just a nasty piece of work. Would love to punch him with some of his rings on and break his pretty face.
- I hate it when series start with the theme over an action sequence thus making us wait a week for the OP. (This is a purely personal preference)
- I think the opening song is weak[/HIDE]

On the whole, I think this episode looked great, but none of the content has won me over yet. Still, we've got a year to go ...

Wizard has got style...

- That first episode was...awesome. I really hope the police's involvement will be a major part of this series.

- Interesting concepts. Wizard has to enter the person and kill the Phantom before it escapes into the real world.

- BIKES BIKES BIKES. RIDER BREAK.

- Wire-fu and awesome fight choreography.

The proportion of fight:story is feels like 50:50 to me, the huge amount of fighting involved feels like it's gone into the middle of the series already.

Ranking this episode really high, especially for a debut one. Really impressed.

The only thing that was a shame was that when Wizard was doing the kick, it was so Garren style I shouted SAYOKOOOO then he resumed to the normal kick instead of the drop kick. Otherwise, for me this is a perfect start to the series. Hopefully next week will keep it up.

Not a big fan of the OP song; I mean, I'm trying not to be biased here but, Anna Tsuchiya did have the better song.

That said, the episode itself was okay. Yay for police people but, I don't get why there was no Op sequence. I usually assume it's to not spoil stuff ala Faiz or Abaranger but, we blatantly saw Haruto transform so, *shrugs*.

In this one episode Wizard used his bike almost as much as Foruze did for his entire series

I liked the first episode, but there are way too many jokes and puns it

Okay, so I don't know a whole lot of Japanese, so I don't know about ANYTHING that was going on, but I must say...the action sequences are a winner so far. I really like Wizard's transformation, as well as the way he does his form changes. And I like the opening song as well as his theme music. The one downer I see is that it looks a little clunky when he changes his rings, if only because since he's got another ring on his other hand, it looks like he's fumbling. I'll have to wait for a better quality raw and the subs to pass full judgement, though.

From what I could catch of the first episode (damn you brain, and your forgetting of how timezones are a thing!), I liked it. The way Haruto used his rings for very mundane things got a chuckle out of me, as did him riding a tiny unicorn in a very fabulous manner. Loved the fight with the Minotaur Phantom (only caught the second one), and the fact that he had to go inside Rinko to heal her of some sort of Phantom infection was very cool.

The CG was a bit much, especially considering how Toei's never really gotten the hang of it, but I can deal. Haruto...I don't know. Maybe there was character stuff that I missed, but I need to see more of him to actually see him as something other than bland.
