Kamen Rider Wizard, Ep 1 - "The Wizard Uses Rings"

Just finished the Wizard premiere, was pretty fun.

The driver says "PLEASE" constantly. Most polite Rider belt ever.

It's the Magic Word.

The first episode was okay, I'll watch the second episode before I decide if I'll keep watching or not. The cast didn't grab me.

Maybe, but since they're supposed to be heroes that kids want to emulate, isn't it better for them to be, well, nice and not jerks?

Yeah I didn't get jerk. A little cocky and cheeky but not jerk. He's also very serious about what he's doing. But I'm not looking forward to you fishing for this jerk angle all year.

Liking the Police plot we got going here. I'm guessing that Phantoms have a pretty large control of the force and it will be interesting to find out what the deal was with the sacrifices. This episode was definitely a fun way to set up the story. Haruto is a nice contrast to Gentaro. A playful, calm person (or so he appears to be) but is serious about protecting people.

Can you tell me when exactly was Haruto an asshole with Rinko? I didn't find any moment in their conversations in which he was an asshole with her or too disrespectful. Heck, he even explained to Rinko all the basics about what's happening. Haruto might be cocky, but definitely not an asshole.

Haruto is nice, in his own way. I must say that maybe his cockiness might be part of his "act". He acts confident and secure about himself to reassure people that they can trust in him to be their last hope.

And he also might teach a valuable lesson to kids too: Even if at first a person doesn't seem nice that doesn't mean they're bad. You should find out more about one person before judging it and not stick only with the surface.

If I'm not mistaken, Fourze's ep1 was lower than OOO's finale.

Basically everything he did in the episode made him come across as a douche in love with himself. It's not really what you want to be presenting as a hero to kids

But doesn't that tell you something else?

That even if someone doesn't seem like it, one can be a hero... in their own special way... kind of a good example if you ask me

I found the first Kamen Rider Wizard episode to be something that ranged from underwhelming to obnoxious. I do like the concept behind the Phantoms and their designs and I'm a bit interested in Haruto's backstory. Otherwise nothing about the show in terms of story or action really stood out to me at all. Wasn't terrible but wasn't very impressive unless you're really into CG fights. I'm going to give it a least a few more episodes before I decide if I'm skipping Rider this year.

Then again I might be more into it if the belt would just shut up. My god there's one part where the belt sounds are talking over each other because the first soundbite hasn't finished yet. Speaking of annoying sounds I can't say I like the OP either. It's kind of Climax Jump meets an 80's Kool Aid jingle.

Well, I thought I'd post in one of these for the first time since the admin was so kind as to put it in its own section.

I gotta say, the first episode was AMAZING! From start to finish, THIS is how you premiere a Kamen Rider show!
-Silver bullets?! Now this is a Rider that means business!
-Loved the model-kit-style, tiny assists machines. (Hibiki, Double, OOO, Fourze, and now this. Is this becoming a thing? Anything for toy sales?) If they make model kits of these things, I might actually buy them!
-Love the confident hero. He is a pretty boy, but only as pretty as he needs to be. Would love to have a jacket like his.
-First episode flirtations?! Now that's a Kamen Rider who knows how to take care of business!
-Love the little bits of teaser involving his other forms, but I am a sucker for red/fire forms. Love the little bits of magic tricks here and there. Would love to see more of this family he has.
-Love the funky Henshin belt! I hope this is also becoming a thing. It was cool when Double did it, awesome when OOO did it, and I am in love with the way Wizard is doing it!
-The motorcycle is awesome, but a FRIGGIN DRAGON! And he controlled it first episode! Just when you thought it couldn't get more epic! Ryuki never did that on his first episode!
-And the main hero loves donuts. He's a rider with a trench coat-style suit, his default form is red, he swings around a gun that can transform into a different weapon, and he loves donuts. Trigun, anyone? ...I am SOLD!

This is going to be a really epic show this year. I better stock up on all the popcorn I can. :buttrock:
