The year is 1595. Under the rule of Hideyoshi Toyotomi Japan is enjoying a fragile period of peace. While there remains tensions between the various Daimyos, no battles are occuring and the people can worry about their everyday lives. This peace however is about to be endangered. Deep within the icey caves at the foot of Mount Fuji are sealed the 66 demons and their King from ancient times. Demons that devour the flesh and soul of Humans. Once free to roam the world, warriors from all over the world equipped with magical weapons bestowed upon them by the gods converged to Mount Fuji to seal them away into giant crystals beyond stone doors. However this seal is not eternal, and the constant seismic activity of the region only accelerate the weakening of the seal. Already weaker demons have bean released and two of them, under the guise of a regionnal lord and his conseillor, have taken over the region of the Kai Province nearest to the cursed forest of Aokigahara.
From his castle the fact Ishikawa lord and his assistant have forged cursed swords to equip their soldiers, sending them out to hunt down powerful artefacts that would aid in the freeing of their more powerful brethren, the three Demon Lords and the Demon King. These cursed swords twist the souls of their weilders and draining away their life forces. These swords cannot be matched by human weapons, not even by firearms, and they gather the fear and life force of all it falls in battle. When the wielders are depleted of their life-force they turn into demonic beasts, wild and uncontrollable they create even more fear for the Demons to feed upon, gaining power to free themselves should the hunt for artefacts fail. Mere mortal weapons cannot defeat the demonic beasts and the Demons.
These controlled soldiers, and demonic beasts, also serve as footsoldiers in the Demons fight against their enemies. From all over the world the ancient sacred weapons are awekening in response to the Demon’s return. Through dreams they call upon worthy weilders to find them and then take them to Japan to fight the uncoming darkness. Those chosen by these sacred weapons can, in times of need, call upon enchanted armors to protect their bodies and also wonderous enchanted steeds to aid in their travels. By uttering the ancient magical word “Henshin”, a word that is so important to the secret History of Japan that it integrated to its language, the magical armors appear out of thin air and a Kamen Rider is born.
Demons cannot be completely defeated, for they have an immortal soul. However their physical form can be destroyed, but once that happen their evil souls must be sealed within a sacred object, otherwise it could take possession of any nearby life form and keep battling. After sealing the Demon Souls they can then channel its power through their sacred weapons in order to gain more power to defeat its brethren. Once all the demons that have escaped have been captured they will once again converged into the caves of Mount Fuji and renew the seal.

The Sacred Weapons come from all over the world in various shapes. They each pick a warrior from their culture and through mystical training those warriors become used to a weapon that is possibly outdated by the time of this story. The weapons also come with mystical translating powers so we don’t have to explain why everybody is speaking the same language.
Each weapon and each Demon has an elementary alignment. The titular Kamen Rider Tenken (who I will not play) is the only one with a Light aligned weapon, the Hikari No Tenken (Heavenly Sword of Light) and no Demon is aligned with Light so that makes its powers unique. Tenken’s ‘rival’ will have the only Shadow aligned weapon but its common in weaker demons. The other elements (Water, Fire, Earth, Wind, Lightning and Ice ) are more widespread. When you defeat a Demon and seal it you can insert the seal object (rune stone, talisman, crystal, etc. something that fits) into the weapon to infuse it with the elementary power of the Demon. There is 66 true Demons, divided into three legions of 21 lead by 1 Demon Lord each, a Demon King, and and unlimited number of potential demonic beasts. Please keep the fake Lord Ishikawa and his advisor (who’s name I have yet to come up with, any suggestion will do) around for as long as possible.
Each Rider has a Steed, but the steed doesn’t have to be a horse. These can travel incredible distance and essentially fly over the ocean to reach Japan faster than any boat, but they’re not very good flying ride if they aren’t giant flying animals. An enchanted horse for exemple will essentially gallop in the air and not be able to perform acrobatic feats in the air.
I chose an era of Japan that was very much free spirited in that you could still see female samurai and wandering regionnal lords who have enough free time to go around the country. There was no major fighting going on and no war so we don’t have to worry ourselves we any specific historic details. Plus since none of us are History major we don’t have to try to keep ourselves to historic verasity too much. Just try to keep the anachronisms down to a minimum. Maybe later we could do a sequel set in modern time once we’ve established this setting!

Kamen Rider Tenken

Notes: The Hikari No Tenken is unique in its power of light. It also has the ability to free a human who is controlled by a cursed blade, but not once it completely turned into a demonic beast.

Element: Shadow
Notes: The rival blade to the Hikari No Tenken, the Shadow Sword of the Forest is said to have been offered by Tengus living deep in the darkest forests of Japan. It is the only Sacred Weapon using the powers of Shadow ever conceived that did not turn evil. It is said to hold secrets of the forest within itself and that its wielder can blend with shadows.

Weapon: Igneus Lamina Marsiaris (Roman gladius)
Element: Fire
Notes: The Burning Blade of Mars also grants its user a flaming shield on his free arm. It is a devasting and brutal weapon that, once it pierces the skin of an opponent, can burn them from the inside.

Notes: They say the user of the Jiang Long Yan Yue Dao can run across a body of water as though it was land.

Notes: The Sword of the Ghost Wind can make its wielder so fast they can seamingly dissapear in a whirldwind of dust or sand.

Weapon: Caliburn (broadsword)
Element: Earth
Notes: The scabbard of Caliburn is also part of the weapon and by itself can inflict damage to demonic entity. Also by touching the ground with it one can heal wounds inflicted to one’s body as the cost of the surrounding plant life’s energy. If Caliburn is used for evil it will automatically shatter and the scabbard has the ability to repair it, but can only do so once for the same wielder.

Origin: Ireland
Weapon: Gae Bolg (Celtic spear)
Element: Lightning
Notes: One wound is enough for this weapon to prove lethal for once it is inside the targets body it errupts into fifty shards that pierces from within. If someone not trained in its use were to grasp it and try to use it, the spear would rebel and erupt into shards that would pierce his/her hand.

Origin: Scandinavia
Weapon: Fenris Langox (Viking double bladed axe)
Element: Water
Notes: Said to have been crafted from the steel claws of the evil wolf Fenris, this axe can cut through anything, including the flow of a mighty fjord. They say its user can hold his breath underwater 20 times longer than any ordinary humans.

Appearance: A silent mountain of a man with tanned skin. He has long hair floating freely in the wind held by a simple leather headband. He wears clothings made of unknown dark skin and wears a bear teeth talismans around his neck. His Rider armor is of shining silver and gold colors with a golden bird design on the silver chest plate, two wing-like extension on each side of the head starting at the extremities of the three dark slits that serves has visor. His shoulder pads resemble Native American carvings of birds in silver with golden details. Silver faces are carved into his lower legs plates. The buckle of his belt, from which Thunderhawk can hang, has a design of golden lines on silver that loosely ressembles a dream catcher with a yellow stone at its center. The ‘undersuit’ is made of mat black material that sharply contrasts with the gleaming metallic shean of the armor.
Finisher: Thunder Punishment. He raises the axe above him where it is struck by lightning from above, the crack of thunder enough to stun any nearby foes. He then throws the charged axe at his opponent where it is struck once more by lightning. Thunderhawk then flies back to his hand magically.
