Kamen Rider Ryuki - Talkback

She's just a comic relief and some sort of eye-candy to some people. One of those characters that you really shouldn't be taking seriously...

Megumi was a comic relief character. She doesn't contribute much, but she's funny. I kind of don't want to spoil the show by saying something she does.

OH ya, this was THE series that got me into the KR world as well. If there's anything that I 'd go back to , it would be this series. I still love and adore all the rider suits and designs alot, and even though I have almost all the couchaku henshin figures, I still wouldn't mind getting all the S.H. Figuarts when they come. Heck, Im even thinking about the figmas......

and the cards ain't all that bad. its because of Ryuki that i started playing MTG and YGO @_@ and the same reason why I'm still hunting Ganbaride cards.

15 episodes in and I'm liking it so far. Shinji is a funny goof, but what made me wait so long to finally watch this one (despite jumping right into Den-O after finishing OOO) was knowing that this was pre-Den-O Kobayashi, and she wasn't too blatant on the humor yet. But the humorous bits are still excellent.

The dinner scene at the beginning of episode 13 has to be one of my favorites, and I'm surprised either actor could keep a straight face when Ren and Shinji are bickering with each other like 6-year olds.

Zolda turned out to be a pretty entertaining character.

I'm a little surprised how short Scissors lasted. I guess there wasn't too much for him to do after his own introduction. He was a dirty cop who attacked a reporter to cover up how he murdered a store owner and subsequently kills two of his fellow cops who were gonna arrest him. What could he do then? Other than either go into hiding or get killed, that is?

Oh, and Hitomi Kurihara is SO much better as Nanako than that annoying as hell Smart Lady she'd play the next year.

Scissors role was the sacrificial lion. His entire purpose was to show exactly was at stake in the rider war, mainly you win or you die.

Is it just me, or has no one on this show actually said what their Kamen Rider title is at this point besides Zolda? The only reason I know Knight is named that is because I knew that long before watching it. I actually had to look up Raia and Gai.

EDIT: Ok, if my memory is correct, episode 16 is the first time Ryuki is actually referred to by that name within the show.

What the hell, Raia? Don't you have your OWN place to stay?

EDIT: Huh, they switch the battle song to Rider Chips this early at episode 18? But no Ricky on vocals yet, this is Keiko Terada. She has a voice that I think would be better with soul music, which according to wikipedia she has dabbled in, but she's fine for this song.

There's a redone version of this song with Ricky on vocals (in the album Majimemashite, which has a handful of redos for a few earlier songs the band did and has Ricky take over on vocals, and even a total rehaul of Kakusei which is awesome), and it sounds so wrong. Yeah, I can admit there are songs Ricky doesn't improve.

I didn't think it was possible for any fan to want Shinji to win.

He has the purest of intentions of anyone in it

There is not enough good things that I can say about this series, it's perfect meld of promotional toy whoring and a strong storyline with great characters to help reinforce it

but what made me wait so long to finally watch this one (despite jumping right into Den-O after finishing OOO) was knowing that this was pre-Den-O Kobayashi, and she wasn't too blatant on the humor yet. But the humorous bits are still excellent.

That's honestly what I like about, it's just a shame that the majority of Kobayashi's work has devolved into a heavily anime inspired, nonsensical, and confusing mess

But, to her credit, she is able to pen some of the most interesting eccentric characters that I've ever seen

i think shinji was there to carry the role of the heroic main rider title... he may not be that heroic or great but he has the purest intentions and a genuinely good guy...

knight on the other hand kinda lived with his name, "knight"... he was there to rescue his princess... i kinda felt the writers were secretly rooting for this guy... he has a decent reason on joining the war and he actually won...

but what i liked the most is asakura... he was evil... but he made evil looked cool enough to make people root for him... :buttrock:

This was my first rider show and probably one my favorites.I remember first watching the 13 Riders Special back in the early 2000s before I watched this because I got the DVD as a present and I remember getting a nightmare of Asakura going apeshit.I was kinda wimp back then, so I threw the DVD, hoping I would never see it again.

Anyway, I always wanted Ryuki to win.He really tried his best to end the war, and after all that, all his efforts were wasted, this being the reason I prefer Episode Final.I still don't get what was going on when Survive debuted. It seemed like Shinji and Ren just became extremely angsty.Shinji is probably one of the dumbest riders, but he's still in my top three.

I think naive is more apt than "dumb". Shinji was always promoting an ideal while Ren was always the realistic counter. Shinji's naivete led to dumb choices, but he wasn't inherently dumb.

Incidentally, has anyone noticed at every Kobayashi Rider show pairs the main hero with a contrasting personality? We have Shinji-Ren in Ryuki, Ryotaro and Momotaros/other Taros in Den-O, and Eiji-Ankh in OOO. And in every Sentai she writes, the villains are trying to achieve a specific goal, be it reviving Daitanix, flooding the Sanzu River, or stealing the main Enetron storage unit. Timeranger is the one exception.
