I think both. Greeed are made from both and he collects both. I think he needs enough Cell Medals to create his body mass and the Core Medals to hold it together.

I agree with the above: when Uva was hit by Eiji's Cheetah kick and lost some of his Core medals, his chest piece disintegrated and he visibly lost a ton of Cell medals. I think the same happened to Cazari as well, but I'd have to rewatch that scene.

it's more or less like Shingo's unconscious, and he'll die without Ankh supporting him.

Or a comatose state, cause the time Ankh leaves the body to collect the Core or Cell Medals from Eiji's fights, the body doesn't react in anyway except falling back like a ragdoll.

I heard they filmed those to try and mirror this famous hoax perpetrated with the book, where the author claimed it was an abridged version of a lost novel by a medieval writer called "S. Morgenstern." The author claimed, among other things, that S. Morgenstern's version was a satire of the excesses of European royalty.

Of course, there was never any such original work or any person called S. Morganstern. But the novel was still taken by a lot of people as someone telling you a version of an older story, which I'm pretty sure the film was trying to recapture with the grandfather and the little boy.
