Kamen Rider Kuuga General Discussion Thread

Kuuga was the series that revived the Kamen Rider franchise back in 2000, they seem to have went all out on it. It's not far fetch to think that while creating the series, they wanted to focus on fans who are now in their late teens or adulthood. Just making assumptions though, don't quote me on it.

Yeah, I know how the last episode plays out and that was fine. It's a little disheartening to see Godai get beat up so much when he gets a new form though. Of course it's made up for when he gets the weapon. :P

I think this series was more geared to the older audience, or somewhere in between. It's kinda dark for a kid's show basing on the story itself and the Grongi tribe as well.

I think Kamen Rider while clearly having a target of kids always to greater or lesser degree depending on the series, keeps a general audience in mind even with the current Sunday morning timeslot and having to adjust to that. At the time Kuuga came out they made something that probably would have fit better in an evening timeslot but is not entirely in-accessible to kids IMO.

I remember being little and watching The Incredible Hulk which was basically approached as a relatively grounded sci-fi drama airing on prime-time. It could be very scary but at the same time I knew that Hulk was basically good because Banner was good. The Hulk had all the strength but hardly any of the brain so he couldn't understand and communicate as well but there was a conscience in his clouded mind that always seemed to guide him unless something messed with that.

With Kuuga I could see a younger viewer maybe feeling scared but also reassured because of Godai himself and feeling that they can go with it because eventually Godai will find a way to save everyone's smiles even if he's hurt or seemingly defeated.

I will be the first to admit, I was genuinely afraid to watch Kuuga and Agito as a child. Especially since the demonic face of Grandiene from GoGo V was on right before it. Masahiro Inoue admitted to being afraid of Kuuga and Agito!!!

But Godai definitely seemed to calm me I guess. Though when Kuuga would use the filters in some of its episodes, it really had that creepy horror vibe to it. Especially with Kuuga's scary metal music.

For some reason, I find Ryuki a bit more "scarier" than Kuuga and Agito.

Hey man, whatever floats your boat. I always found the scenes where Daguba would go on a rampage and killing people was especially creepy. They would never show his face. Just a dead body, some blood and then the creepy screeching music. Oh, and when Sakurako found Daguba's symbol written in blood on the wall...Maybe more ominous than frightening, but yeah.

The scene where Gooma absorbed part of Daguba's stone, and started to transform..that was sick. Like, sick in a cool and in a gross way.
