Kamen Rider DVD/Blu-Ray Questions

i bought some stuff of ebay for decent prices and it was a worldwide region code

got the whole series of kamen rider decade and kamen rider faiz, trying to get OOOs and Fourze

I hope you know that you bought bootlegs.

You can pick up region-free DVD players pretty cheap these days.

A lot of dvd players can be "hacked" as well. It's usually nothing more than pushing in a code on the remote. Just google your dvd player+region free hack.

And if you want to play dvds on a PC (htpc for example) most software dvd players are region free or can be made region free with software like Anydvd.

If I was going to get a region free player, it would have to be region free blu ray that also does region free for DVD. Not to mention it would only be a replacement when mine breaks. Anyway I just ordered the Timeranger set from Tokusatsudvd. "Let the waiting begin", I know, but aside from the time, product is always impressive. Nice Garo set, Kamen Riders Kabuto and 555, Gekiranger and now I'm sure this will be a good way to see Timeranger. For both Garo and Timeranger, no subs but higher quality.

Personally I think Blu Rays are overrated. Sure they're great for stuff like American films that cost millions of dollars to produce and make usages of scenic views and stuff like that... ...but for stuff like Kamen Rider and Super Sentai? I don't think so. Especially not if it's something like the original 1971 Kamen Rider.

Secondly, if you're looking for Blu Rays from Japan, don't expect them to be SUPAH CHEAP because DVD's from Japan are also quite pricey. I'm talking $79.74 (£50) for 1 DVD containing 4 episodes of say... Shinkenger. I'd expect more than that if it was a Blu Ray.

Believe it or not there are cheaper alternatives from Hong Kong and Taiwan, and they're not even bootlegs!! They're legit Taiwan and Hong Kong release DVDs. The cool thing is, some of them let you change the language from Mandarin or Cantonese to Japanese. The only problem is they don't have English subtitles.

And DVD regions are nowadays a SMALL problem. You can play ANY REGION DVD on your PC using VLC without needing to worry about jack. I don't know if this is so for Blu Rays though.

Yup, pricey depending on which site you get it from (believe me, I'm the guy who knows about that). I can also tell you Blu ray Gokaiger looks great! Hopefully if I go for those with Kamen Rider Wizard, I think that would be fantastic!

Region is a BIG problem, the whole reason to get these.

You could stick to a region-free DVD player.

Be honest here, it's not so much about the region because you could get the equipment for that. It's about the price. You buy the fakes and you don't need another player and you definitely won't buy the authentic discs.

The player is a single cost; the discs are recurring costs. You really don't want those recurring costs.

Can anyone explain just WHY the DVDs in Japan are so expensive? That's more than most high-grade figures that I buy from over there...hell, the rare Tajador Combo Change figure is a mere $75...the price of one DVD.

How can anyone in Japan afford to get a set of these DVDs? They don't make THAT much money over there...I mean, where's the business model? Supply and demand you crazy Japanese companies. SUPPLY AND DEMAND.

I want to know the answer to this question too. Why is it so expensive while the DVDs here in the US look so cheap compared to there?

DVDs have never stopped being collector's items in Japan, instead, they have a well-developed cheap rental service. Probably has to do with Japanese city lifestyle (small aparments, lack of time) that doesn't go well with buying tons of DVDs.
