Well Gou is becoming like Micchi. Even after revealing that his dad created the Roimudes, he's reaching the point to where he tried to kill Chase for just helping him. Not to mention that when Kikiko slapped him, that might have set him off. Which is the same thing that happened between Micchi & Mai last year.

I'm torn on how to feel about this episode. I don't like how the transition has gone for Chase (like I said in the 26 thread, I don't dislike that this is the end result, just how quickly we got to this result), but he wasn't utilized badly in this episode at least. I liked actually getting to see Gou working on his own rather than him just popping up near the end like he used to in the earlier episodes - that would have been a really fun "Double Rider" dynamic for the monster of the week formula, having them solving the crime simultaneously through different means, then meeting up partway through and sharing info to finish things, but that's a moot point now I guess.

Regardless, on those fronts, it wasn't bad. On the other hand... This Shinnosuke stuff was, uh, not as good.

Does anyone else feel like they decided on this police plot last minute? Unless I totally missed it, I can't remember any mention of Shinnosuke's dad prior to them starting it up, whereas the things with Gou and Chase they're doing now are, execution aside, the product of buildup and foreshadowing we've been getting for weeks to months. On the other hand, the police stuff was never really presented in the same fashion - there was never a major focus on this kind of thing, save for some very minor bits with the Captain that seemed much more like they were building up to just revealing that he had set things up and was involved from the beginning. That, arguably, was being foreshadowed. The following plot thread in turn... maybe you could stretch that to say it was meant to build off those minor things, but I can't say I feel it was done well if that was the intention.

Comparing to the other two Riders' issues right now, it feels like they shoved this in for Shinnosuke because someone realized during a meeting about what the next big plot arc was (Chase changing sides and Gou getting pushed to his limits and revealing his backstory as a result) that oh crap our lead character isn't leading this storyline is he? and made it up on the spot to fix that.

That, or maybe they were getting complaints about Brain's new role as Medic's punching bag, but now suddenly he's involved in a subplot and all put together again?

I mean, we were presented with this slacker character who had motivational issues - motivation, or "drive," was sort of an underlying theme of the show for a little while. You'd think, if this had been planned, they would have mentioned it offhand just as backstory. If anything, they could have given it that much more impact if they'd done it that way. Early on, Shinnosuke could have been slacking and some other officers could comment that he's not worthy of being compared to his dad. They could have briefly touched on it then and introduce the concept, revisit it later after Gou arrives and Shinnosuke starts being more responsible and not needing to be pushed to get in gear as much, and by the time we get to this point, it would have been an accepted part of his backstory and something they could genuinely pull as a plot twist rather than just... pulling it.

Or maybe it's just me. Still, my opinion of the show after these last two episodes hasn't been going up, I can say that much. :disappoin

I'm in the minority in which I think the show took a turn for the worst in the second half :/ I'm also in the minority that thinks that we were going somewhere in episodes 1-11.

I really don't like how they shoe horn certain plot points in the show. There's a few but the one that really bothers me is Shinnouske's reason to be cop. I was enjoying the idea that Shinnouske was the regular guy doing his job and the right thing (though, there was that debate on why would he even be a Kamen rider). I felt that the series was supposed to test his morals as a cop, like some of the earlier episodes and a little bit of the recent ones.... But no, we had to pull the whole "The reason the hero is this way is because of a dead relative." Granted, it would make sense because sometimes a cop's life is like that. However, because we had very garbage episodes that went nowhere, the fact that it took THIS long really reeks of desperation.

Really liking how drive's going now. The revelation that 001 is in control of the police finally explained so much about their behaviour. And having brain be implanted as an advisor? Brilliant.
Also really like how Mach is losing control. Gou's come a long way from his annoying circus performer days. Apparently we have Starninger for that now -_-. Having his somewhat unjust hatred of roimudes is a nice addition, and is understandable since they killed his father, and every sight of one is a reminder of his father's failure.
The slap scene did give me Micchy vibes, but Micchy was great, so no complaints here. Even Shin's actually becoming interesting, with the stuff about his father looming in the background, and being torn between going the vigilante route, and staying a cop. I'm really surprised how complex and well though out drive ended up being.

The one thing I AM wondering though... do you think 001's mind-controlling of the higher-ups, and the revelation of the cover-up, was always planned, or added in as a response to complaints about the police incompetence?

Honestly I don't feel Gou is anything like Micchy. Micchy was a control freak rich boy who decided genocide was a reasonable reaction to the girl he liked not wanting to date him. Gou is really the only person on the good guy side raising the completely reasonable point that it's not as simple as "well, a teeny tiny minority of Roidmudes didn't try to murder us so it's fine to just hand one who's already tried to kill us multiple times an incredibly powerful device and trust him not to stab us in the back!"

Gou's way of arguing his side is clumsy, tactless and hotheaded but his actual point is actually not really as unfair as Shin and Kiriko make it sound. The fact that his emotions were obviously being targeted and manipulated by the Roidmudes in this episode really only drives his point home.

Chase never tried to kill anyone other than the Kamen Riders (while transformed). If I recall correctly, though, he did try to kill Kiriko (I think?) after Medic re-programmed him. But that is well behind now.

Plus, Gou is not against trusting Chase. He is against ALL Roidmudes. It doesn't matter if that Roidmude is good or bad. He wants them off the face of Earth, so don't pretend he is sane and logical or reasonable, because he isn't. As of now, he NEVER questioned/made a deep thought about believing in some of them. He was constantly against them, even if he was going back because of Tomari. Who knows what he'd have done if 027 survived and stayed alongside with the characters..

One more note, even if we, the viewers, are the only ones who know for sure that Chase is not going to betray them, his actions in the series have proven that he is trustworthy at this point (for the characters). He is still too shady and confused, something that wouldn't make sense if someone wanted to just back-stab his enemies.

Chase broke Shinnosuke's arm just hours before he transformed into Kamen rider chaser, because he was till struggling with his programming. Why should Gou believe this switch is any more permanent than any of the others? Besides, his dad undoubtedly didn't create the roimude with the intention of them being evil, but they were, so he considers them evil by nature (and to be fair, only 2 to date aren't, though heart is somewhat morally grey).

He wants them off the face of the earth because he feels he has to atone to humanity for what his father did, and we still don't know what his "running out of time" thing refers to. Is he dying? Are the roimude gonna do something at a specific time which he knows about? Does the mach system have limited uses like zeronos? Yes, his reasoning isn't sane, but it isn't supposed to be. Gou is compteley off his rocker at this point. Not Micchy level, but probably about Hase level.

Gou is one of those Kamen Riders (and yes, he did try to kill Kiriko. It doesn't matter that it was because Medic re-programmed him, because how on earth does Gou know for sure Chase isn't just scheming again thanks to another of Medic's plans right now?). If someone tried to kill you, how trusting would you be of them? If your sister suddenly got all loved up with the dude who tried to kill you and then had the nerve to get mad at you for not accepting him with open arms, can you honestly tell me you'd be happy about it?

Aside from that, as I said, Roidmudes who haven't done anything wrong are a tiny minority. Like, off the top of my head I can only think of a single one (Kyu's mimic). Am I saying Gou is being totally fair? No, he's a hothead who's not thinking things through. But it's unfair to say he's total scum with a needlessly malicious point of view. His take on things does make sense, and if the majority of us were in his shoes we'd be reacting exactly the way he is.
