JyuKen Sentai Gekirangers: Thoughts & Opinions

So as you can quite tell from my user name and picture, I absolutely LOVE series! I'd say this show is what solidified me as a sentai fan. I did watch other sentai shows before Gekirangers. I thought Gaorangers was o.k, Liveman was great but lacked something, Dekaranger was good but was a little too goofy for my taste, and Boukengar and Go-Onger were both horrible IMO.
But once I watched the 1st episode of this show, I instantly fell in love with it and just finish the show about a week ago. Everything from the plot to the characters were amazing and that it wasn't too dark or too silly and blended both quite well.

So what did you guys think of this show?

Gekiranger is still one of my favorite Sentai seasons. I love martial arts themed seasons and gekiranger did a good job with it. Everyone hates Jan but I actually kinda liked him. though my favorites were Retsu and Gou. The mechs got a bit much after a while but that can be said for ever season after Boukenger. But yeh, I thought it had a solid story with solid characters. it also had one of the best Villians in years. Rio was a total badass throughout the show and was fun to see on screen. I also liked the Gekiranger vs Boukenger crossover, which is still one of my favorites along with Magiranger vs Dekaranger, since I also enjoyed Boukenger a lot.

So yeh, I love the show, especially since before it aired, I hated the costumes. But damn did it win me over.

Really?! I guess I kinda understand why people might not like him, but I found him to very adorable a thought he evolved as a character quite well.
And yes, Gou is badass. Him and Ran are 2 of my favorite senshi :anime:

Sad to say, I simply could not get past Jan. I thought Master Shafu was strangely adorable, though.

Great series. 2007 was the year I officially considered myself a Toku fan, and like Den-O is my favorite Rider series, Geki is my favorite Sentai. I honestly liked Jan the jungle boy from day one, and actually enjoyed his "Jan-glish", his fiery spirit, and his determination when the chips were down. The show was really good in how much of it focused on the training and development of the Geki Jyuken team, and the way they earned their new powers and abilities.

The drama and tension the series had was top-notch, and the show was very good at portraying the family ties throughout the series. However, it was also able to balance out the light-hearted and dark parts quite well.

Of course, being a martial arts sentai, the fights were excellently choreographed, and the mecha battles were quite enoyable in the way they were like giant martial arts matches, as well as the G Gundam-esque way of controlling the robos.

Gekiranger is a series I'd reccommend to any sentai fan, and definitely one of the best

I personally love Gekiranger but I think the characters let it down a little. Because of the focus on Jan, Rio and Mele, the characterisation of the team suffered. Ran and Retsu were pretty flat characters and weren't used effectively, Gou and Ken might as well have not existed - they got almost zero character development and were totally ineffective against Long.

That said, I think the plot was great, the fight choreography was impressive and the show struck a decent balance between fun and drama. Long is one of my favourite Sentai villains of recent years, too

I enjoyed watching Gekiranger. Although, the beginning didn't pull me in. And I don't know if it's just me, but with all of the Sentai that I have seen, I never have liked Red after the first few episode. They all come off as annoying, like with Sousuke and Jan.
