JOHN CARTER: And the Warlords of Mars aka Disney's John Carter

It didn't win the box office in the 2nd week this week.

Comparing to Green Lantern

What's sadder is that even Green Lantern did slightly better by the midweek. Studio's were hoping for 60 million by Wednesday but Green Lantern made about 55 million.

When people look back at what made "John Carter" fail they'll point back to the marketing.

This would make a good paper for any business major/marketing major.

Disney is telling Wall Street that financial loss of John Carter could be as high as $200 million.

Here's the official statement from Disney at their earnings conference:

“In light of the theatrical performance of John Carter ($184 million global box office), we expect the film to generate an operating loss of approximately $200 million during our second fiscal quarter ending March 31. As a result, our current expectation is that the Studio segment will have an operating loss of between $80 and $120 million for the second quarter. As we look forward to the second half of the year, we are excited about the upcoming releases of The Avengers and Brave, which we believe have tremendous potential to drive value for the Studio and the rest of the company.”

Disney passed on merchandising for this too. Bullet = dodged.

And if people really want a sequel...just read the books.

This has such an incredibly bad marketing, the guy in charge should have been shot.

I haven't seen the movie and I haven't even seen a trailer. I should be bombarded with them online and on television, it's such a basic marketing rule the team behind the campaign haven't grasped.
